Contemplating buying a 2014
Hi Corvette community,
I am in the process of looking for a C7 and had originally limited myself to 2015s or newer. I'm having a lot of difficulty finding something in my price range but have located a 2014 with everything I was looking for and then some.
Here comes the question:
Should I be concerned about purchasing a 2014 now that the 2017s are hitting the lot? The vehicle I am looking at has 10,000 miles, a clean carfax, 1 prior owner, as well as a Chevy CPO warranty in tact. I've always heard to steer clear of the first model year and knew that the C7 wasn't without problems initially.
I am now looking to the community for advice. Thanks!

I own a 2014 M7 C7 Z51 vert and my son owns a 2016 M7 C7 Z51 coupe. I have driven both and see no reason anyone should avoid a 2014. There are some minor feature changes. If you need or want Carplay I think you need a 2016 or newer.

Minor changes each year but no reason to avoid a 2014.

Are you looking at an automatic or a manual? If an automatic, I'd be more inclined to get the 14 due to concerns with the early A8 transmissions beginning with the 2015 model year. It appears there has been some improvement in them with the 2016 versions manufactured by late fall of 2015. The 2014 has the 6 speed a/t from the previous C6 generation which seemed pretty bullet proof.
Sounds like a nice one. If it has everything you want, I wouldn't shy away from it, especially with it being a one owner and CPO. Good luck. Whichever one you get, I'm sure you will love it!

I think there really is no need to avoid the first year in a generation change on the Corvette these days. 1984 was the last seriously problematic Corvette, and since then they really haven't suffered from the first year blues anymore. 1997 C5s had no more issues than later years, and my 2005 C6 has been near perfect in the 3 years I've owned it (now has 76,000 miles on it and runs great) I believe every generation of Corvette has gotten more reliable than the previous ones, so when I'm ready to move up to a C7 I know I won't hesitate to go for a 2014 if it's optioned out exactly how I want it.

I'm gonna go against the grain and say why not a brand new one? You can get a pretty big discount right now. I got $9k off last month. Nothing like the peace of mind of a brand new car that you know hasn't been abused

I had a 2LT 2014 auto and now a 2016 2LT auto. Honestly except for the front camera and better touch screen there isnt a whole lot of changes. No real differences in build quality or anything like that, both cars had some minor issues that were easily fixed.
Only thing is warranty, would not buy one of thee without at least a year of some kind of GM warranty left.

Definitely no reason at all to stay away from the 14. As others have stated, the automatic A6 has been pretty much bullet proof. Except for the flickering infotainment screen, which, if it occurs, would be replaced with no issues under warranty. I purchased mine in 15 as a CPO 14 (3k miles) and have had no issues.

Thank you for the valuable input everyone! Definitely made me feel much better about the 2014s. I am sticking with a M7 so it seems i've got even less to worry about than initially anticipated.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Loving my 2014 Z51 M7! It has been very good to me. 29k miles, and 6 cross-country roadtrips, worth of smiles so far

If you're tallying votes, here's another one from a happy '14 Z51 7MT customer who has had zero issues.

You may be comparing apples and oranges.
Used car asking prices aren't what most people pay any more than they do new car MSRP. Deep discounts can often be had on both.
Based upon my very recent June experience of purchasing a CPO '14 Z51 7MT convertible w/4K miles (w/ big discount off asking price) and comparing it to identically equipped new (w/ big discount off MSRP), I saved $15K.
And those savings on a CPO car (2/2015 new car in-service date) included extra powertrain warranty (6yr/100K) and service visits over what you get on a new '16 (5/60). I then spent $1K of those savings on a 5yr/60K bumper-to-bumper, extended GM warranty from Ken Fichtner.
