Default Do you open your hood?

Do you open your hood when you park your C7 Corvette to let out the heat?

No, the stupid hood has such a huge gap around it the heat escapes on its own.

I open the hood to do maintenence and wipe downs.
Dumb question, why do you need to let the heat out?

You don't

In addition to that, most of the "Heat" is held in the engine block, which won't cool down any faster given an open hood or not. (Not appreciably differently at least)

Now, the underlying reason is probably looks or coolness, and for that "whatever floats your boat"

EDIT: The paint quality on the older car is so good!!!

Fact is it does cool quicker with the hood up and the old cars didn't have the modern paints with the clear coat that are in use today.....Basic enamel or Acrylic lacquer was what they used back when. Of course I wasn't around then I just read about it.....

The engine area is hardly "insulated" to any dangerous degree. Keeping a consistently warm area wouldn't be bad for the engine anyway. Changing temperatures FASTER would be WORSE. Think... hot glass in cold water.

Of course this point is moot, you are not going to do damage either way, so I can only conclude it's for looks....

On the other topic, whatever the reason, the older car has basically no orange peel. Hats off to the detailer.

its just foolish to open your hood every time you drive. in fact all you are probably doing in wearing out moving parts.

I open my hood to let the heat out.

The LT4 in my Z06 puts out a lot of heat (heat soak) and you would be surprised how much hotter the engine gets right after shut down.

One added benefit I think by letting the heat escape out of the engine compartment would help keep the engine belts,
hoses and weather strip seals from drying out so fast.

But hey each to his own and just my 2cents !!

At track events I do - in order to help cool down the top end so timing/hp isn't pulled as much.

I never bother even at track events. There isn't any issue with cooling since my car doesn't overheat at the track. The only time it is opened is when I want to check oil level after a session has ended. Then I pop the hood, walk away and come back about 10 minutes later to check the oil.

I can't focus on underhood heat - I am too much in love looking at that C2 vert in your garage.

What a beautiful car!
