Do you open your hood?
Do you open your hood when you park your C7 Corvette to let out the heat?

In addition to that, most of the "Heat" is held in the engine block, which won't cool down any faster given an open hood or not. (Not appreciably differently at least)
Now, the underlying reason is probably looks or coolness, and for that "whatever floats your boat"
EDIT: The paint quality on the older car is so good!!!

Of course this point is moot, you are not going to do damage either way, so I can only conclude it's for looks....
On the other topic, whatever the reason, the older car has basically no orange peel. Hats off to the detailer.

I open my hood to let the heat out.
The LT4 in my Z06 puts out a lot of heat (heat soak) and you would be surprised how much hotter the engine gets right after shut down.
One added benefit I think by letting the heat escape out of the engine compartment would help keep the engine belts,
hoses and weather strip seals from drying out so fast.
But hey each to his own and just my 2cents !!

At track events I do - in order to help cool down the top end so timing/hp isn't pulled as much.

I never bother even at track events. There isn't any issue with cooling since my car doesn't overheat at the track. The only time it is opened is when I want to check oil level after a session has ended. Then I pop the hood, walk away and come back about 10 minutes later to check the oil.
