Default Dumb car show question...

I just bought this 2016 1Lt, Shark Gray, black wheels last week. A local car show is on 10 Sep and a few friends say I should take it to the show. Not expecting much since its bone stock, but would it be worth it? I guess for the experience and meeting a butt load of cool folks is what I was leaning more for going...not expecting to win anything because I know there are lot of cool looking C7s around...

I enjoy walking car shows more than being in them, but you should try it once, you have a cool ride!

Go to the show whether you enter your car or not. You'll meet lots of good CAR PEOPLE there and probably some C7 folks that will give you some good tips on your new ride.

Don't ever expect to win anything at car shows, in fact the fun of going to the car show is looking at other cars.

Enter it for experience, and see if they do private judges, entry votes (where only people who have entered the car show can vote on the winners), or public voting.

Cars in most car shows are judged by how clean they are....You will have to DETAIL your car to the 9's. First....clean your tires and wheels. Then use dressing on your tires and make sure all brake dust is cleaned off on the INSIDE of the wheel. No water spots ANYPLACE. Interior cleaned with no sand or dirt on the mats. Windshield SPOTLESS inside and out. That's about it....walk around....meet other owners....make friends....look at their cars....enjoy the day.

I enter car shows a lot just to share my classic car with others and talk to people. I have found that car show judging is by far never fair so don't get mad just have fun talking to others. I show a restored original 36k mile 1971 Boss 351 Mustang. My wife will enter her (our) 2017 Corvette Coupe in a car show in north Texas in October.

I will give you a short version of how unfair car shows really are. I showed a restored 1971 429cj Mustang Mach 1 in the "original restored" class at a local show in 2014. My 71 came in second place. First place went to a 2013 Mustang. So, just go and have fun and if you win something that's cool but if you don't no big deal you get to make new friends and enjoy other cars!

I understand they put all cars in categories, mustangs and vettes by years/generations, stock or modded. So, hopefully I will go into the stock C7 category. I guess I need to get a fire extinguisher since that's part of the checklist...which I can't find a checklist anywhere...maybe you pros have some ideas where to find it? Are they all the same? I assume each car show is different with requirements...

As others have said enter it and just enjoy the experience and looking at other cars. Don't go wanting or expecting to win anything.

I've never seen or heard of a fire extinguisher being required to put a car in a show.

Enter it and have fun yakking to others about vettes. Do not take the judging seriously and you will have a great time- as it is basically a cleaning contest.

We never enter the judging contest. We just park the car, and talk with other car people. Makes for a great evening. Grab a couple chairs, an cooler with something to drink, a few snacks, and have a ball.

They all say fire extinguisher required but I have yet to be checked after many shows. People with classic cars definitely need them and so do you. You might be parked next to one that catches on fire so having one is a must. Buy a high quality unit such as a Fire Extinguisher, H3R Performance HalGuard, B and C Rated Fires, Chrome, 1.4 lb. Bottle, E from Summit Racing. These extinguishers don't create the huge mess the cheap ones make. Worth the extra $$ in my opinion.

One last thing to get. Don't waste money on a bad folding chair. This is a reasonable priced chair that folds into a backpack style to carry and has a built in top. Check this out, I bought three and you might even be able to match it to the color of your car!

Here in central florida we have a place called old town, They have a weekly show Fri. night is I think 70 and newer cars. Sat is old cars and hot rods. My wife and I would go to have dinner there and put our 90 vert in the show. thay had a live band, door prizes ect. a lot of good people plus you get a good parking spot for dinner. while all that is going on they have a judge go by and look at all the cars. They put a small checkered flag on five of the cars and those people go up on stage to tell who you are and where your from and get a 25.00 gift card to use at old town. Then you line up with your cars and parade down the streets in old town so all the guest can see the cars and take pictures. I had a front tag on my car that people would stand by to get there picture taken it was air brushed with the chevy crossed flags and said PURE SEX . I would tell them that they won't understand what it meant unless you drive the car.

Give it a good cleaning, enter it and enjoy the day. No downside at all.

Personally, I like cruise-ins way better than car shows, but with that said, it will be a great opportunity to meet new folks with most of them sharing the same passion that the most of us have. I too say go and enjoy. You can always leave early, if you're not having fun, but you won't know if you like it, if you don't try it.

Enter and enjoy the show and meet new people who share a common interest. As to your car, sometimes "bone stock" works to your advantage as some judges don't like even the smallest mods if your car is listed as stock. Just make sure it's clean.
