Default Should I buy a Corvette C7 Stingray if I make the salary of a UPS driver

Right now I work as a package handler at UPS, hopefully one day to move up to a delivery driver. They make like 30.00 an hour and work 10-12 hour days, 5 days a week. So annually I would make $78,000-$93,600. With this money I make, would you recommend I buy a Corvette c7 stingray. I'm 23 now, but I'll probably be between 25-30 when/if I become a driver. Or what advise would you give me?.

The easiest way to be rich (aside from having rich relatives or wining the lottery) when your older is save a big chunk of what you make every month. As your savings grow you'll learn what to do with them. Stop worrying about how fast you can spend your money and figure out how fast you can save it.

Sure, you can afford it, the question is should you spend your money that way

Have you run your monthly budget numbers like rent, insurance, etc.? Do you have any existing debt? It's impossible to say without knowing the numbers.

I would stop worrying about what car you're going to drive in few years and concentrate on getting promoted first, once you have the job and the money, then you can figure out how to spend money that you don't currently have.

The next day isn't guaranteed.

With the C7 holding it's value better than any other car over 40k on the planet, buying a 1LT/M7 car for $50k new makes perfect sense.

If you can afford to make the payments I say go for it.

By any rational financial analysis I could not afford either of my first two sports cars, but I got them and made the payments and had a hell of a good time.

My 401k might have been a bit bigger by now without them, but then there is no replacing the fun that you can have in a car like a Vette!

If that salary is stable, I see why not. $80-90k when you're still single is plenty of money to play with even in the Washington DC Metro Area.

I believe with that income, you should be bringing home like what $5-6k a month post tax? Let's assume mortgage is $2-3k, car is $1k, and credit card bills/misc are around $500-600 a month. You will still have a decent chunk left over to put away.

Ultimately it's your decision but I would say wait until you get that bump in salary before you make the plunge. Impossible to give sound advice though without knowing all the details. (Debt, income, bills, etc.).

There are at least two professionals who you can ask that question, and they will give you a good, professional answer. And it probably won't cost you any money. An accountant (I'd go for a CPA, which means a certified public accountant) and a certified financial planner (CFP).

An accountant may, at least, want your business in the near-term future, as will the financial planner. But, just like saving up for later in life, it is never too early to start having good professionals on your side and who know you, your earning and spending. To gain your business, I'd say the financial planner will definitely help you at no charge, and the accountant will likely do so---at least once.

Give it a shot. What you will get here is a variety of opinions some of which are very good. But not all.

Buy the car, pick up chicks, and live life to the fullest! Your ticket can expire in any minute!! Don't kill yourself in saving money, eat out whenever you can, take tons of trips and don't worry about tomorrow, cause I have watched a couple of my friends stress about saving and never enjoyed life, then they passed away cause of a drunk driver, when that happened I live like a rockstar!!! And I never look back!

Default Seems reasonable....

....and a tangible goal to set your sights on (watch out for wives, children and other "distractions" that might stand in the way......)

This is literally the worst financial advice ever.

OP, I'm a little older then you and have a Z06 (not rich parents or any special job, just work hard). The really question comes down to what is the rest of your bills like? I know 23 yr olds who live at home and have zero debt so affording a corvette wouldn't be hard. My best advice would be if you don't own a home yet do that first. But if you've made that investment and you can still save a little bit each month and and afford to pay for the car, do it. Like others have said tomorrow isn't guaranteed. My grandma always told me you don't get to take the money with you, but the fun you have in the car is priceless.

Its all about priorities ... Life really is too short to drive a crappy car. FYI .. I also work for UPS in IT in Atlanta ...You Teamsters guys have it made ...

You don't say what part of the country you live in so we don't know the cost of living in your area ... In Atlanta its easy to have a nice house, nice car, money in savings and entertainment budget on a UPS driver salary ... Other parts of the country it would be tougher. And I think the majority of us (myself included) have a C7 as a pleasure vehicle .. not a daily driver so keep that in mind.

I would say definitely by a house first ... don't be living in parents house with a C7 parked in their driveway ... If my son was living at home and bought a C7 I'd be like .. WTF !!!

No. You should save for a down payment for the house you will buy in the next five years when you get married. You may have a kid or two after that. At 23, I wouldn't buy a car with a 1k month loan. Get something reliable like a Toyota or Honda.
