Default Grand Sport 2017 is $63k, why spend $55-65 on a 2/3LT base car???????????

With a base GS priced at $63k, would anyone justify the options in the 2/3LT package and purchase the base car?

Here's an example of the 63k GS.

http://kerbeck.com/corvettes/2017-ch...lt-new-g17415/

The GS just too good to even think about the base narrow body/brakes/wheels.

IMHO

Why get a GS when you can get a Z06?

Perhaps some of us like the look of the slimmer body on the Stingray.
Unless you are tracking the thing, the potential of the larger tires etc will not be used on normal streets.
Also at this point I don't believe that all seasons are available for the GS so those in colder climates might be limited on how much they can drive their cars.

Love the look of the GS, but don't know if I would give up my Stingray with Z51 package for it.

If I was buying now, I would strongly consider it. But for me, not worth trading up (yet!) My base is fine. Never plan on tracking this one.

End of year pricing has been amazing all the way around. I bought early in the year, with nothing like this for pricing. But if I had bought now it would be in the garage in about 1 month for the season anyway . . .

Some people, me being one of them, like the creature comforts of the 2LT packages. Namely the HUD, heated/cooled seats and such

For a lot of people that extra $10K is prohibitive

That's like asking why you settled for a 4 bedroom house instead of spending an extra $100K on a 5 bedroom one

Also very easy to flip your argument on it's head and ask why anyone would spend an extra $10K for a Grandsport when 99.99% of the time they will never use the extra performance that it theoretically offers. Doesn't that make the base model buyers the smart ones?

Depends on what you value and intentions for the car. I love the Stingray but I wanted wider rear tires.

I wanted a more fully loaded car over HP that I know may get me in trouble. I got my insurance for the GS yesterday and all the agent seemed to care about was if it had the 650HP engine or not. I am paying $66 a month for the GS now.

I ordered my c7 Z51 W/2lt package in March this year armed with the news release of the 2017 GS. I opted to order the 2016 Z51 with a 12% discount and purchased 3000 GM points for $1600, saving almost 10k off MSRP. I knew I would not get that same savings right out of the gate on a GS. So between what I paid and the price difference in the GS along with a lesser discount, that amounted to about a $10k difference. So for me I couldn't justify paying that extra money for a mostly cosmetic upgrade. I also didn't want to spent the bulk of the summer without a c7. Today marks 5 months since I picked it up and have put on 5500 miles, and it's not my daily driver but I drive it almost daily. Enjoying it immensely. I figure I could drive this for a while then perhaps buy a 2018 GS with bigger discount and incentives, or perhaps a used Z06 for what I paid for my Z51.

exactly---for only a "little more" than the base GS, you can get a base Z06, virtually a no brainer decision, right?

It's kind of like Chevy copied the Porsche 911 lineup, but with a different approach to price points. Base prices . . .
911 S (narrow body) $103K
911C4S (wide body with 911S engine) $110K
911Turbo (wide body) $188K

Stingray 55K
GS 65K
Z06 79K

The GS and Z06 prices are kind of close to me . . .

2LT is the most popular of the trim packsges. Outselling 1LT 2 to 1.

Nuff said.

I happen to like all the bells and whistles the 3LT offers. So why would I spend the money on a 3LT GS? At that point I may as well get a ZO6. But I chose not to go that route because I am not a fan of the wide body. And I am never going to track the car. I would love to but no tracks around here that i know of. There is no right or wrong answer. It all boils down to what you want. Some want base model, some want GS and so on.

You are assuming that everyone wants a GS and that's a false assumption. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I am not a fan of all the tacked on stuff on the GS, in particular, the front "spats". In the C6, I thought the Z06/GS was much better looking because of the more seamless integration of the bigger fenders.

As always, YMMV

That's nothing check this 2LT one out on eBay. True, honestly the narrow body car is obsolete now for just a few grand more you get the wide body better brakes, mag ride, bigger wheels and tires Z51, NPP It's a no brainer.

I'm not a fan of the wide-body either. The original is a much cleaner, more elegant design. Moreover, I'd rather have all the things that come with the 2LT and above packages. A GS 1LT would not be on my list.

It really doesn't cost GM significantly more to build the GS than it does the Z51, and with the up-charge, they've increased their profit margin. I also think it's amusing that so many automatically assume everyone would rather have the wide-body.

because I don't want to pay $10k for wheels, tires and a $1500 worth of brakes.
But mostly because it's 20% more.

edit: didn't realize mag ride came with it too. Yeah, that's a pretty sweet deal if you want to spend 10k more. I always fret at big price tags, even ones I can afford, but if I had it to do again, I'd definitely get 2LT and mag ride. I went 1LT and regular Z51. I might spring for grand sport, who knows.
