Default Key fob battery

I tried to start my 2014 on the way to work today. However, The key fob battery is dead, so I took the Silverado. What kind of battery does the key fob take. I want to pick one up on the way home today

Thanks

Uses a 2032. Buy from a store that sells a lot so will be fresh.

It's not obvious to me how one changes the fob battery, other than prying it apart. Is that the way it's done?

When the key fob battery goes, is the C7 then inoperable?

Pry gently in the small slot on the side. Battery sits in the center between the tabs. Be careful of the polarity or will not work.

If the battery goes dead you can still start the car by placing the metal end (key) of the key fob in the slot on the steering column where they used to put the ignition switch. No need to remove the key from the fob.

No, the split where the case halves of the fob snap together. One of mine has a small screwdriver slot, the other does not. A dull butter knife will split the one that does not. Advice- get two batteries. If one is dead or close to it, the other is not far behind. I change mine for the 'vette and the Harley both every spring. Sold in a two pack at Wally World.

Started the Vette Sat and got a 'Service Keyless Entry System' . Stopped by dealer and parts guy opened fob and replaced battery. Total cost was $3.20.
I just wanted to see how to open the fob, but for the price, he can do it every time.

I just tried it with a letter opener, and it does pry apart at the seam and snap back together very easily. 2032 watch-type batteries are widely available at any hardware or big box store.

Sounds like a good deal. Easy either way.

I was confused by the OP stating his key fob battery was dead, so he couldn't start the car. So, he took his Silverado to work. Am I assuming correctly then, that the key fob metal part will also open the locked door?

Yes, he didn't realize that if he put the metal end of the fob in the steering column slot, the car would still start even with a dead fob. The hidden key has nothing to do w/ starting the car, but will unlock the car if the fob is dead.

Yes, indirectly. The metal key will open the hatch/trunk using the keyhole next to the rear license plate. Once inside, there is a manual pull tab on the left side that will open the door.

Owner's manual says if the battery in the fob is dead and doors are locked, call roadside service. Probably easier to hitch a ride to get a new battery for the fob.

Why?

You use the key to pop the trunk/hatch, pull the release and the driver door opens and then you put the RKE in the slot and start the car. Go to the store and buy a damn battery. Replace the battery and the world is your oyster.

Why didn't you just use the spare fob?
