Default My first post - some trade-in help, please

Been lurking for two years. I bought a 2014 3LT (stickers was 69k) a couple of years ago. 4200 miles on her and my dealer has a leftover 2016 long beach red 3lt loaded with goodies including mag ride. $80240 sticker and he's looking for 21k and my car. Any thoughts on the deal would appreciated.

Was considering the GS but couldn't find a deal that I felt was was a good one

Thanks and glad to be posting

??? 21K and your car adds up to 59K for your 2014 trade.
What am I missing here?

If you consider some dealers are selling leftover 2016's for 20% off sticker price, a person could likely purchase this particular car for $64,000. If the dealer wants $21,000 difference, the dealer is offering the OP essentially $43,000 for his 2014.

If my math is correct.

I think Fat Mike math is correct. I think $43K is on the low side for a 3LT with only 4200 miles. I won't do it. Specially that OP prefers GS.

80k -10k = 70k. Which means 49 k for my trade....I'm sure I can get it for 20,000 which takes my trade to 50k...but that's not 20% off as mentioned above. Hmmmm

Thanks for the replies

tax break keep in mind. otherwise private sale factor in you paying more no trade for tax break ($42,000 x 7% or whatever your rate is so rough is $3,000 making private sale need to be high $40's good luck with that. considering 3yr newer are going for so cheap..vicious cycle)

The 20% offer is for in stock cars, which at this time of year are pretty well picked over. And there may only be a couple to choose from. If you can talk the dealer into doing it for your car and 19K I'd say go for it.
Regardless of what many think the Stingray is a wonderful car and easy to drive, which I am sure is the case with the GS, too. But you will take a much harder hit trying for the GS, more like your car and 35K.

If my math is correct.
I agree provided you can find a car in the color and equipped the way you want it at this point.

This can vary from state to state. In Missouri, if you sell your car as a private sale and then buy a new one within 6 months, you can apply for a credit towards the sales tax. All you need is a valid bill of sale. Same goes if you purchase a car then sell your other one within 6 months - you can apply for a refund of sales tax paid on the new car.

These cars are only worth what someone is willing to pay. Dealers can check nation wide sales of like vehicles on their computer. They know the value and they may give you some more for a local car with low miles but be realistic. Check several dealers to validate the numbers they are offering on your car. A dealer with several used corvettes is going to give you less than a dealer with none in most cases. You might drive over to Car Max and get their number. That way you get a ball park idea of value at least from dealer perspective. I like the low miles on your car and a dealer will also. That said, don't expect a dealer to take your car in trade and give you a number that is going to make it difficult to sell your car. If you sell your car out right to an individual or to Car Max then with cash in hand you may get the larger discount. Your car is not a classic so it will be worth even less next year. If you don't like their offer you have a nice car. Enjoy it.

You pretty much already have a new car with only 4200 miles on it.

The 2016 will have a few more features and will smell new.

What I see is you paying 20 grand to store your car for 2-3 years so someone else can buy it at a great deal used Now if there is something wrong with your car or you just dont like it then thats a different story. If you are worried about warranty running out buy an extended warranty for a couple grand.

A 'good' deal is what you are happy with and how much your time is worth to you. Good luck.

Is $21K the "all-in price" (taxes, fees, etc)?

. 2016 needs to be at $63k and your trade at $45k. Counter at $18k + your car.

Based on these numbers (which I think are really pretty close), you are talking about $9k per year to move up to the 16. Is the 16 really worth $9k per year cost? If you think so, you should consider a lease since the cost of $9k/year is equal to $750/month.

Skippy, check out this thread if the car is an A8 non Z51. Not saying it will have the problem, but many including mine does. For comparison mine was built 03/16. Just some food for thought while making your decision.

This. And you never know if the new one will have issues.

I traded my camaro for the 2014 Vette which the same dealer had on the lot. The 2016 is almost exactly what I would have ordered. Color, mag ride, wheels , etc, etc...the msrp on the 2016 is 10 k more than mine was but has all the carbon flash, carbon fiber roof, interior and exterior. Mag ride and auto 8.

just looking to upgrade to a newer model year with more of the things I wish I had the first time.
