after two weeks of bad driving experience and rough shift from Park to drive or Park to reverse took the car to the dealer, and the GM expert concluded that the issue was a bad torque converter the good thing is that we know what the issue is, the bad news it takes 3-4 weeks to arrive and paper work with GM.

i hope so too, read a lot of comments both pros and cons but i hope everything is good at the end, and no more trips to the delaers

Did you have to drop it off at the dealer and leave it?
Could you use Manual Paddles in the meantime?
Is there a way to turn off the AFM and avoid the issue while you wait for the part?

Dealer replaced my TC at 10K and I have had no further problems and I now have 20K. Good luck with your new TC. The dealer I used has replaced so many TC's that they now keep them in stock.

All will be fine. With that said, I wouldn't hand over the car to them until they have the parts in stock. I'd rather have it sitting in my garage/driveway under my watch rather than having it on their premises for that long just sitting there. Just my 2 pennies...

me and another corvette owner went to the dealer for the same issue. i guess is a common thing

The problem with the TC's is a bad o-ring, which seems to show up around 9-10K miles. I am sure GM had quite a few of TC failures due to the bad o-rings and it probably took them a while to determine the problem and correct the o-rings. I know when they replaced my TC they also replaced my Transmission filter and put in a new type of transmission fluid.

Mine failed at 6k miles, had the TC replaced and no issue since in >2k miles. I also had to wait 2 weeks for parts to arrive. Once they did the swap was quick.

I did have the "kick as the car downshifted into 1st" once post-fix but I don't think that's related to the TC. I think that's a software issue with the computer.

I'd have to say there's a few at GM's Powertrain w/ B&B asses.
This has to be a costly blunder.

That said I drove an A8, in a CTS.
Smoothest most responsive automatic I'd ever driven, and a turbo 4, not a LT1/4. A genuine pity this happened to start with.

UPDATE:


the dealer end-up replacing and installing a new torque converter. They also replaced my transmission filter. The car feels better than before when changing from D to P or P to R, but sometimes when left overnight the problems comes back but not as hard as before.

i will keep driving it for a week or so to see if it gets better or worse, any ideas or tips are greatly appreciated.

Should be smooth as a baby's butt now, IF TC was 'the' real issue to begin with. JMHO.

Starts acting up again, this time be requesting a new transmission.
You've paid good hard earned $ for this car, deserve no les than a properly functioning transmission. Not your fault GM can't get their engineering act together.

My TC was replaced at 7300 miles. Job took 30 days but I also had to have a new fuel sending module which necessitated tearing down the entire rear of the car to get to the fuel sending unit. Was in the shop for almost 40 days but the job was done well and so far everything is fine. Good luck with your repair.
