Thanks for posting your ceiling height.
Everytime I see these posts about lifts, I start getting the itch to get one, but I have to keep reminding myself that I only have 9'-6" ceiling height to work with. Finished bonus room above the garage. After allowing for the opened garage door, that pretty much kills the idea of using one to store one car over another.

I have two Autolifters 4-post lifts(no longer in business) that are identical to the backyard Buddy. Regular height and width unit with a 3/4hp 110VAC motor for the hydraulic pump. I have 10'-6"ceiling in my two car garage With the lift at max height(with my 64 coupe on the top), I have 63 inches under the lift. Okay for my 4 door sedan(58 inches tall), but would not work with a tall SUV/pickup.
I have no problem driving my wide body C6 Z06 on the lift(don't have to tuck the mirrors in), to do an oil change My approach ramps are 24 inch long steel that weigh 20 pounds. I do not have problem with the front splitter).
I restored my 56 using one of the lifts using jacking tray, to remove the drive line etc.
If I need to remove the wheels on my Z06 to do cleaning or brake maintenance, I do it in my driveway, as the 4-post lifts are very close to the garage walls, so virtually impossible to do any work on the brakes, etc, on the side of the car against the wall.

REALPILOT, Your lift could be just what I need. Could you tell me the max clearance under lift. MY ceiling is 10'6 but I can raise ceiling unfinished attic above. Mainly looking for winter storage were I could still get P/U and SUV under lift during winter. I have a 2 car garage but with steps from house going into garage from the side and a normal 4 post it would be real tight between steps and post for wife's SUV to fit in between. Thanks in advance!

My hoist is also an Advantage Lift, 9000 lb, extra wide. I was going to order the extra wide 3 car lift like the one pictured but stayed with one. Advantage will not deliver to your house unless they are installing it. They would only ship to a business address and then I"d have to work with that business in off loading, reloading and delivering it to the house so I just had them deliver it to me in Lake Havasu (3 hours from Phoenix).
Install was fast and very happy with the Advantage. Same design as Backyard Buddy. Cost delivered and set up was about $4k as I recall.

I have the standard size direct lift and a 10' 6" ceiling. It is wide enough that I don't have to tuck my mirrors on any car I have put on it but is not wide enough to put a truck on or under it without folding in the mirrors. If you have room I would suggest the xl versions on most models especially if you park under it on a daily basis.

I'm thinking of getting RealPilot double lift and thought I would have to get shaft mount opener liked mentioned above. Question I have is looking at his pic of Corvette's in garage on lift lowered (pic taked in garage ) it appears to me that he has a normal angle garage door rail not the ones I have seen needed with some lifts that angle up higher. Am I correct?

I went with an Atlas 408-sl after going back and forth between it and bendpak for weeks. The one thing that swayed me was that I could pick it up locally and install it myself. The C7 fits under there just fine, but I need to get longer ramps to fit it on the lift. My garage ceiling height is 10'4" and I did have to get my door raised. I went with a jackshaft opener on the side to get as much lift as I could. I made a video of the install and a review of the lift:

The plastic on the seat helps but just in case.

I see this discussion a lot. This is my take on lifts. Most of the cheaper "hobby" lift designs have the cable outside of the column. Although they are likely properly designed for the loads, this does not appear to be a good design to me. What this creates is a moment on the top plate. It creates a lifting action on the top plate making the bolts have to be very large. You are relying on those bolts to transfer the load to the column. The cable force is also trying to bend the top plate, which makes the top plate have to be very thick. If you look at the bendpak design, the cable is in the middle of the top plate, in the middle of the column. All forces are in line with the column, which in my opinion is the best design. KISS (Keep it simple stupid). The cable transfers the load to the plate which transfers the load to the column, all in a straight, direct, line (force vector). In my opinion this is a superior design and why I went with bendpak. This design difference typically seems to be missed when talking about lifts. I am not affiliated with the lift industry in any way. I am just a car enthusiast engineer. Yes, the bendpak design, and all of the other lift designs can have issues if they do not size cable, columns, bolts, pulleys, bearings/bushings, etc properly, so I am not saying any lift is safer than another. You would have to go through the design calculations to determine which ones have higher safety factors (as a complete system) than others.
