Default Clay bar, change of mind

I have read about people using a clay bar on their new car. I admit my first thoughts were why. Anyway we clayed the top wings of a Challenger Jet and the results were amazing. This was after one wing was compounded. Quite a difference between the two wings, the clayed wing was really smooth compared to the compounded side. We did use the recommended clay bar lubricant instead of a quick detailer product. I am impressed, only took about an hour to go over one wing.

After using a clay bar your surface is like glass. Perfect to add polish and then your favorite wax/sealant.

Have you tried the autoscrub mitt?

I used to use CLAY until I tried the mitt.

Ditto, the mitts and other new products rock, so much easier then clay.

Skip the clay bar process, it is old school, and very time-consuming.

Here's the new technology that I have posted about previously.

The "surface prep" wash mitts are the best detail item ever.

I suggest either one. You will not realize how good these mitts actually are until you spend a few bucks to try this process. I guarantee the results to your paint surface will be simply amazing.

Your attitude about using one of these mitts will change your attitude and the way you detail your own C7 or any other vehicle you own.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed in any way possible, you will only be amazed at the results of an ultra silky smooth paint surface.

My recommendations:

Been clay bar fan before most had a clue, nano skin cuts time and is very good. That being said, if a client car has been neglected clay bar is my first choice. Its slower but seems a bit more agressive at its work.

Enjoy the glass like finish to work with as a base and hit the compound, glaze, wax, sealant,
 whatever your liking.

I mixed my own solution for use with the clay bar.....In fact I just did my 1 year old TR Vert for the first time last night in prep for a car show I am doing this Sunday.....For those that care I use DISTILLED water, a dash of Dawn dish washing liquid and a cap full of Aerospace Detailer all in a 1 quart spray bottle.....

I find a combination of both mitt, and clay work best.
The clay molds into the groves, and smaller detailed areas. While you can rock out on the open panels with the mitts.

For the smaller areas, you can use the nano-skin sponge (seen below). This smaller sponge is ideal for areas such as the front fascia and rear fascia and will also mold into the grooves. Keep in mind, the mitts and sponge are reusable for more than one application. The clay bar is a one-time only use detail item, and if the clay bar is dropped, it's toast.

Also an additional note, the mitt vs the clay bar. The surface prep mitts are available in a medium grade and fine grade.

Most car owners who simply wash their respective vehicles do not know these products I have mentioned even exist or know of the superior results this new technology and detail items can achieve.

Whether the C7 is new or used, or new with low mileage, every C7 owner who is serious about a high-quality superior paint surface should consider using these item(s) as soon as the owner takes possession of the vehicle.

I challenge anybody to try these items I have suggested and report the results back here on this thread.

Also the idea of the solution of water, & dawn detergent as a lubricant for the new mitts and sponges as CF member "obxchartercaptain" has mentioned is an ideal way to lubricant & clean at the same time as using the mitts and sponges.

If you want really smooth paint, use IronX after clay barring. Then polish and either wax or seal.

While I agree with you on the advantages of the new technology, I find a combination of the old and new do a much better job when it comes to the finer details.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Nanoskin DA pad, but that's another story.

Working around the badges, vents, mirrors, tail lights, spoiler and such, the sponge doesn't come anywhere close to what's needed to clean out the crevices adequately. An awful lot of dirt accumulates in those tight little spots.
I could understand the frustration of dropping a whole bar of clay on a dirty floor, definitely not the time to go all butter fingered, but then I don't think most people work with the whole bar.
Tear a piece off the bar, seal up the rest of it, and put the bar in a safe place until another clean piece is needed to work with.
I definitely get a lot better mileage out of my clay, now that the mitts have come along, but I'm not ready to give it up entirely, not yet.

I find what I have pictured here to be a good combination. JMHO

I've used the clay block and mitts, but still prefer the old clay bar method. It's nice to have choices.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had not heard of the mitts and will give one of them a try.
