Hopefully the C8 will get the DCT and mid-engine layout that the C7 deserved, and the AWD option that a top tier street car needs in 2016+.

Can't wait for the C8 and Zora......
^ This actually sounds like fanboy talk to me.

I'm sure the C8 will be fantastic but we really don't know much about it. The likeliness of it having a DCT I think is low since GM has invested so much in torque-converter automatic transmissions for good reasons and with good success. AWD on a Corvette sounds like a bad idea, its just not in the DNA of a Corvette.

Not sure I would completely rule it out, but OK.

I agree, it isn't in the DNA.
OTOH, if we have a hybrid, an AWD wouldn't be too surprising.

I wouldn't completely rule it out either, thats why I said likeliness is low

Unfortunately (IMO) hybrid seems to be becoming a thing for sports cars, GT-R is supposed to be hybrid too... I'd honestly rather buy two cars, Prius + Corvette, than have a Hybrid Corvette.

Heritage and all that aside, I don't want AWD. Heavy cars suck.

Put 4WS on a C7 and see how much better it handles.

I say give the C8 BOTH the all wheel steering AND the all wheel drive from the FASTEST Porsches.
This is so painfully obvious, it's actually sad that it gets lost on the luddites around here.
We don't daily drive our cars on race tires, on a road course, in the middle of the desert

Yup. Tell that to all companies that have added AWD to their RWD supecars.
Ridiculous posts like this only makes sense to those who are a slave to tradition, unable to think for themselves, and have no understanding of physics. Par for the course.

Because no matter how fast a turd is, it's still a turd.

I will be surprised if the mid-engine Corvette is AWD. It may become AWD later if they do a hybrid (see Porsche 918/LaFerrari/NSX)

"It’s the toughest decision we’ve made in a long time. But when the question is asked, “Which is the better sports car?” the answer is, by a 0.82-second margin, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport". Looks to me like Corvette got the last word!

Being an instructor for PCA (along with many other DE groups), I do enjoy sliding under the wheel of the high priced cars (like the 911's) now and again. You can absolutely feel and see where all the extra bucks go into the car. I look forward to swapping rides for a session with my fellow 911 instructors; likewise, they are all smiles climbing out of my Stingray too; but at the end of the day, I still prefer driving Detroit Iron .....OK, Bowling Green Iron back to it's stable at my house.

What about all the ones that didn't. Generally speaking, you're faster and cheaper and more reliable without AWD.

Porsche has been using it because they have heavy rear engines.

Huh?
Isn't it more about getting the power to the ground rather than engine weight?

late 90's Preludes and some other Japanese cars had 4WS, if anything parallel parking was a dream.

^^^^ If I recall correctly, the earlier systems were heavily criticized.
However, it sounds like Porsche may have refined the tech.

well yes and no. It's more complicated than that. A car with a rear engine benefits more from awd than a front engine one. If nothing else, it improves, rather than hurts weight distribution, even if it adds weight.

It seems that every GS review has the car with the Zo7 package. That's not the car I will be buying; I'd like to read about the GS without that trim.

Me too, but I haven't seen anyone run that comparison. Same with the Z06, its usually tested on the track with Z07. It would be interesting to see how much difference the Z07 package makes on the same track.

I doubt the Z07 package on the GS will make a substantial difference.
The LT1 doesn't have the power of the LT4 and won't be able to utilize the added downforce of the Z07 quite as well.
By comparison, the LT4's ungodly amounts of power can make the Z07 option more advantageous on-track.
The Z06's main weakness is not enough grip to handle the engine's output...more downforce helps generate more grip (front & rear).

Are the tires on an non Z07 the same as the Z07?

Non Z07 cars get Pilot Super Sports (ZP version) and Z07 cars get Sport Cup 2s (also the ZP version).
