Since owning both a C7 z51 and zo6 and now a porsche gts. I can honestly give my opinion that they are indeed equal cars. The porsche is more like a surgical tool and the C7's like a fighting knife. I loved both C7's but really enjoying the porsche for the time being.

All in the calibration, each car has different calibrations for the MRC, for each drive mode, think of how many options are out there between the different models !! MRC will be standard on most if not all cars in 5 years !!

My favorite quote from the article was

"The 911 is cool, calculating, and methodical. The Corvette is shock and awe. "
For me "shock and awe" wins every time

^Regarfing the ride quality my guess is they left it in Sport or Track and based the feel from that.

My C7GS in track mode is very rough (love it).

However touring mode is a very nice ride and still handles well on the street -- must be because its so low and wide, it doesn't need to be super stiff to still handle well.

Had to laugh at that knife comparison. Having traded in a Carrera S to buy my C7, when asked, I had compared them as Bruce Lee and Mike Tyson.
Both are really great cars but I need to admit that C7 is a better 'bang for the buck'
Still miss the Porsche at times and your GTS looks gorgeous,,,good luck

Porsche's are incredible cars, they really are...but it's hard to ignore price/value/fun. Before I bought my Z06, the first thing I did was go to the Porsche dealership. I spec'd out a GTS and it was close to $140k!! What do you get for that? 400hp. Not exactly mouth watering. I even looked at a Cayman GT4...but again 385hp and tall gearing for $105k. No thanks. I want to have fun when I drive.

So, YES, I agree that in a comparison between a Z51 and a GTS I'd EASILY take the Porsche...but I expected a lot more car for $140k. Thus, I went to check out the new Z06...and needless to say I left there owning one...my first Vette ever. One is a symphony, and one is heavy metal. Just depends what you want...but it's hard to ignore price + fun factor.

I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't clear enough. Maybe someone else out there can say it better than I did. I simply cannot understand why MT decided not to use the Z06 in its comparison instead of the GS. The Z06 is closer in price to the Porsche. It is an upscale model like the Porsche. MT is being intellectually dishonest when the decry the "Bang for the buck" comments people always make in these lopsided tests on the one hand and then don't use the upscale Z06. We have all come to expect the back handed compliment of "bang for the buck" so much that for many it's just a code phrase for cheap. I'm tired of it! I want a fair comparison with a Corvette driver who believes in the car and knows how to drive it without bias. Is that really asking too much?

First, the Grand Sport was chosen by them as the "winner" of the contest!

Second, this was a comparison of the new Grand Sport. For this test they chose the new Porsche to show the Corvette punchs way above its weight. They also did this when they compared the Camaro to the BMW.

Bottom-line this is a big win for GM.

Because they are comparing class within product lines.

Z06 = Top Shelf Corvette
911 Turbo S = Top Shelf 911

GS = Mid Level Corvette
911 S = Mid Level 911

The Corvette is cheap, it is not backhanded, it is built to the cheapest standard they feel that consumers will agree to while meeting certain performance requirements.

Nobody wants to call the Corvette cheap but that is where they all go. Let's say you think a 911 is a better car, go buy one...oh way you don't because it costs 40 percent more, so yes, cost and being cheap does matter.

I like the 911 every which way, except enough to buy one for the price they are selling it for. I would have said rather have a Cayman or a Boxster but now that they have made it 4 and 6 cylinder instead of 6's across the board there is finally a real difference between the two product lines.

The only 911 I'd want to own is a Turbo S and then your in a different price point where there is other competition to look at. The one real downfall of the C7 is the interior quality in relation to Porsche but you can fix that for 6-7 grand aftermarket.

Same reason I'd never spend 100K+ on a Corvette.

I never really got into 911. It's basically the Corvette, backwards, but worse.

Rear engine instead of front, but really rear engine whereas the Vette is at least rear transmission. They're both super fast and these days, the interior is better, but it's not crap vs. incredible anymore.

It's a shame Porsche doesn't make a ~450-500hp mid engine car under 100k. That would be the ticket.

If I'm going Porsche (or at my budget- non vette), I'm going mid engine.

The value conundrum continues, and I echo the sentiment here that the extra money is not really worth it, as fantastic a car as the 911 is. I agree with the review in that it's the personality of the Corvette that wins through; I'm also partial to the looks.

The Cayman GT4 is it, and it's an awesome car...but under-powered. I agree...the Cayman with a 450-500hp and I'd likely be driving one...Then again, the new ones are turbo's so I'm sure upgrading them isn't too hard. The Z06 is just a beast comparatively speaking.

How much would it cost to boost a Cayman? If Porsche developed that model to it's full potential I feel there would be a lot of miffed 911 owners.

It's true that magazines have been doing Vette vs. Porsche road test comparisons since day one. It's a great way to get increase magazine sales. Every time it happens, people go crazy. I have attached an early MOTOR TREND comparison of the two makes from their April 1959 issue. I'd say not much has changed when it comes to how the two cars compare. I love reading these test reports and can say, there is little doubt in my mind that the Vette is an all American winner.

These posts are hilarious. We all know that any self-respecting Corvette owner would trip over himself if somebody offered him a Ferrari, Lamborghini or even certain Porsche models in a trade.

I can tell you I'm very satisfied with my GS/Z07. This Head to Head only confirmed what I already knew. Thanks GM!
