Default Oil change

At what percentage do you change oil on a dry sump system. I changed mine at 38 % because we are taking a 600 mile trip . Not sure if that was a waste or not .

Mine got to 10% before I took it in. It's up to you and what you want to do. It's not going to hurt anything changing it early.

I usually change it at 10%, but have gotten as low as 3% due to scheduling difficulties. The car warns you at 5%. On the dry sump with my driving habits, this usually is about 7500 miles.

I've had to have the oil changed on a couple of long (7,000 + mi.) trips. It's not that big a deal to research ahead and schedule an appointment. An hour out of the trip; no big deal, IMO.

My 2015 Z51 is my 5th Corvette. I have always tried to change oil and filter every year in my Corvettes. I choose not to wait until the car "needs" an oil change or put total faith in a computer monitor. The one year interval has served me well. I have never had a motor problem. C7 has an efficient oil life monitor system and I think you are OK following it. That said, I try to stay ahead on maintenance. If I was at 38% looking at a long trip I would do as you did. The car will love you for it and return good service.

Assuming you mean you got your Z51 500-mile *break-in* oil change (warranty item, free and MOBIL 1 ONLY--full synthetic). Change at OLM of 20%, goes by time & usage.
Mine is due for its 3rd oil change tomorrow at 2% OLM, getting ready for winter storage.

Change when it says to change, around 0, unless your tracking or drag racing. Time is now part of the C7 algorithm so at one year regardless of mileage it will be at 0.

After the 1st change at 1500 miles, since I change my own I also do it when convenient and after Mobil has a rebate but before 0.

I change mine anywhere from 20% left to 50% left, just depends on how I feel.

I'm getting the DIC warning now as I'm at 5%. Made two trips to Road America and one to Indy so about 4,000 total miles driven this season. I have an appt. to get it changed on Saturday and it will be stored on Nov. 1st. The one year notification is about right based on when I had it done last year. I always change it right before parking for the Winter.

Consider change at 20%, but always a fresh change before winter storage

I've done 5 oil changes so far, all were performed between 4-20% depending on scheduling, roadtrips, etc.

If you think about it, you should change the oil when the DIC says OR when you have gone 12 months.

Did my first at 2400mi, and second at 5300mi. I plan on 1 year or every 5000 mi after that. I think I'm a few hundred away, so maybe do it before it snoozes for the winter.

Yep, unlike the C6 and some prior Vettes that said change when the OLM says OR 1 year, which every comes first, the C7 includes time it its algorithm.

Folks who change oil before they store for the winter are surprised in 6 months, if they store that long, have only 50% oil life left! In fact park for a year and it will say change!

Not as illogical as it sounds. I change the oil in my Street Rod once a year with very few miles! Those 4.5 inch diameter forged pistons in the 8.2 Liter engine are a very loose fit until it warms up - lots of blow-by. In addition, just the humidity in the air as it heats and cools from day to night condenses moisture in the crankcase as well. Easy to do, why not!

The DIC will indicate 0% after a year. The C7 algorithm has a time factor built into it. The DIC will go 0% after a year regardless of usage.

I drive mine enough that I usually let it get close to zero %. Check the level and color on the dipstick, and change it early if it looks like it needs it.

Yup, That's why I change the oil by the information in the DIC. Why waste money and use the old school dino oil 3000 mile technique. Either I drive the car enough to get the DIC to 0 and change the oil or 12 months gets to me first. Right now I have 17,741 miles on the car and I've had it for 29 months. That's roughly 612 miles per month, so 12 X 612= 7,345 miles per year. I'm running roughly the miles or the 12 months to get me an annual oil change. Why over think this stuff!

My dealer said to come in any time under 20%. I was at 14% when I called to check.

Yep the one year mark has worked great for me. This year I put it to bed on October 10th ( We had early snow ) and it was at 3% remaining. But I only put on about 4000 Km this year.

Here is another question is it a good idea to change it again in the spring? For me the fresh oil just sits for 6 months until spring. Is that just over doing it a little? What are your thoughts.
