2014 VIN numbers
I have read all the VIN decodes, and cannot define one code. I see that Hendrick's million plus Stingray had a vin number ending E5100001. This forum further congratulates owners of owners with VIN number e5100006. Last August I picked up my C7 from a North Dakota dealer with VIN number E5000443. No 1 code after the 5 code. Can anyone decode that?

Perhaps a rare type-O; all my books say 51XXXXX. I'm assuming your title has the same VIN?
You might check with the records dept. at the NCM; someone there must know what's going on.

I did more research and it seems my car falls into a "captured test vehicle" that was a pre production run for GM Engineers, Executives, and yes some test vehicles. Are there any records to trace the origins of this build?

To me it looks like your car is a production car because the serial number (307) is preceded with 1. If the 1 was a 0 then it would be a "captured fleet vehicle" or whatever they call it.

For 2014, there were 4 vin sequences for saleable cars:
50xxxxx-pilot line validation cars (roughly 350, this number is always higher with a new model, there weren't any where near this many in '15-'17)
51xxxxx-regular production cars
53xxxxx-launch edition coupes( all blue with brownstone interior)
54xxxxx-launch edition verts, all green with brownstone interior and kalahari tops
cars whose vin ends in EX are not saleable, and are ultimately destroyed or displayed. The '17 GS Collector Coupe unveiled in Geneva is an EX car 😞

This is a great thread.
I have a question that is a little off topic but seems like one of you guys might know the answer.
My question is: Does the VIN number sequence also represent the build date sequence (date on door sticker).
I have seen cases where a manufacturer may build a "run of unique cars" with sequential VIN #'s but not in production calendar date order to the other VINs for that model year.
In the case of the Corvette do Stingrays, Grand Sports or Z06 VINs all follow the same sequence order?
Hope this makes sense.

If you're asking if the numbers are roughly chronological the answer is yes. My '14 Z51 VIN is 51352XX, built in 7/14 and was one of the last 2K built for the 14MY (37,288).

For the premiere editions:
53xxxxx-launch edition coupes, all laguna blue, only 500 made
54xxxxx-launch edition verts, all lime rock green with kalahari top, only 550 made
Both are equipped with M7, 3LT, Z51, magride, NPP, brownstone suede wrapped interior, chrome 'torque' wheels, and came with a set of luggage, stingray logo wheel caps, door sill plates, and premium floor mats. The coupe includes the carbon fiber dash, visible carbon fiber roof, carbon fiber flash hood stripe. MSRP for the coupe was $74,765 and the invoice price came in at $67,407. I bought mine used but the windowsticker in the back showed the dealer had it listed at $82k. My the times have a-changed.
The last three digits of the VIN# are the limited edition number and matches the plaque in the car.
For instance, the car with this plaque would have a vin# ending in 5300001.
Further, these cars were not for sold orders - customers could not order a premiere edition. Instead they were optioned to the top dealers across the country for their showrooms.

How does that work though in reality? Mine is the Collectors Edition Grand Sport, car #43, VIN ends in 5300043. Seems like that would conflict with the other launch edition you mentioned below. If they were different model years or had other uniqueness in the VIN it would work, but it seems like it could be limiting (maybe intentionally?).

^At the minimum, VIN position #5 will be different (vehicle line), position #10 would be different (model year), and likely the check digit at position #9 would be different.
For instance, all 2014 premiere editions will start with 1G1YL - the L meaning a Z51 3LT with a manual transmission.

Ok
Do the Grand Sports and Z06 VIN's have a VIN # that is unique to that build like mentioned in other posts? Ex:53XXXXX,54XXXXX. Also the Package cars like Spice Red, Twilight Blue, Etc also have unique VIN series.
I think I should have prefaced my first post that I was trying to understand the 2016 build info vs the original thread discussing the 2014 model year.
Maybe some of the 2016 guys could chime in with their VIN info.
Thanks for the info guys, I am learning.

No, that's about right. The shutdown doesn't happen until July. My '14 was built in July, and about 2K cars were built after it. It may vary by a few weeks every year, but that's close.
The plant is operating approximately 11 months a year so that's an average of approximately 3700 cars per month for the '16 MY. In some months they build more than others, so it's not a huge stretch to reach 40K cars w/ 3 months of production left. Your car could have started in April and finished the first of May.

The Z06 has it's own set of sequence numbers, so your 240xx sequence is out of the C7 build not including the Z06 builds.
