Grand Sport brake dust
Hi ya'll, I'm selling our '15 Z51 and purchasing a new GS (). Got tired of the dust on the Z51 and changed out to Carbotech's, and liked the results. I'm assuming that there will be the same brake dust problem with the GS?? If so, I've heard of another alternative to Carbotech's that might work even better? At this point, I don't plan on tracking the car and, if I change my mind, I can put other pads on no sweat. Any thoughts on this subject are much appreciated.
* Same dust issue on GS as on Z51?
* Are Carbotech's the best or is there another alternative that works better?

I still believe the Carbotech 1521 is the best. 100% non corrosive will not harm your wheels or paint along with being made 100% made in the USA. The 1521 also performs like stock not giving up braking potential. If you would like to stick with Carbotech I will be happy to help you. Pads are in stock and ready to go.

And you start out with an advantage on the GS over the Z06 as the wheels are a much simpler design making them much easier to clean with less spoke area to collect dust.
I was cleaning my gloss black OEM Z06 wheels daily. I put on my Morr Monoblocks and only clean them once a week. Simply because there is a lot less wheel for the brake dust to adhere to.
Lots more wheel arches to collect dust

I've had Carbotech 1521 and Powerstops. Powerstops are better.

I also find they stop better when cold. I have to enter a 4 lane divided highway from our street with traffic moving at ~65 mph and make a turn to a side street in 100 yards. I often have to apply the brakes hard as fully loaded log trucks are traveling in the right lane going to a paper mill a few miles away! The Carbotech pads stop better than the OEM pads when cold, IMO. Just as good when hot.
Plan to sell my 2014 soon and buy a GS. I'll have the Carbotech pads before I get the car and change them when I get it home.
SIDE BAR: Yep there are cheaper pads from China but for my investment and safety would not take a chance on the quality-it's not worth it IMO. The experience in my former life is their quality control is not great or consistent. In fact we bought raw materials for making welding flux that were similar to some of the ingredients used in brake pads. I specifically recall the cheap Chinese bauxite, aluminum oxide, as mined with impurities. All these materials from the ground have impurities (like the sulfur in oil!) In fact it may not just be the mine itself, but where in the mine that ore comes from that makes the difference. We had tight controls over what were called "tramp elements." But you could only sample a test batch! We often paid significantly more for a product that was from a proven source. We got our bauxite from Australia.
Another was a source of sand, silicon-dioxide. We got that from Thomson Ohio, near a drag race track I frequently visited. You passed the huge open pit mine. There were pure white areas and typical more yellow/brown sand areas. They sold product to folks making silicon electronic chips and sand for concrete. The price was far different. All from the same open pit mine! We paid much more for the product with less iron, etc.
I won't take a chance with my brakes, they will be from US made and controlled Carbotech! Just like I buy many things from Harbor Freight that are made in China but purchase all my wrenches only from a proven higher quality source, made with higher cost materials.
I have no affiliation with Carbotech, but as I said will buy what I know works and know where it comes from. Considering the price for pads and the price of the car it's such a small percentage why take a risk.

I had a '16 Z51 and now a '17 GS (standard brakes, not Z07). I would say the brake dust is worse on the GS than the Z51. I had chrome wheels on both. I also had a '12 GS and the '17 is very similar to that as far as dust.

I've had my Powerstop Z26 pads sitting on my work bench for a few months. I just had them installed on Wednesday this week.....WOW! Virtually no brake dust whatsoever.
