Glen, do you not recommend the Fumoto valves you used on your 2014 anymore?

If anyone is rounding off wrenches or sockets on a drain plug screwed into aluminum something is very wrong. Please read the torque spec.

This is more elegant and better machined.....the tubing is better, it's just easier to use. The fumoto still works as well.

The gasoline engine in a Volt about the size of those in larger riding mowers.

Replace the plugs with magnetic ones.

You do know that a 15 mm 6 point socket is the same size as a 15 mm 6 point box wrench right? Sure spend the money, it only takes 1/4 turn to loosen it. But it's not necessary.

Use the right size, keep the socket square, no way you'll mess up a bolt unless you're over-torquing it.

Never had a problem using a socket, but I usually do use a box end wrench to loosen the drain plug.

I tried to convince myself to put in a magnetic plug, but haven't convinced myself yet. Do you ever get any metal on the plug? What parts of a Corvette motor are ferrous and thus can be attracted to a magnetic?

Yeah, the plug on the side is very close to the oil cooler. I was able to get the quick connect and hose installed to test it, and the hose does touch barely, so I will see how it drains on this upcoming oil change.

Still, the worst part of the oil change is the filter change. But removing the plug with the short burst of oil flow can cause a mess as well, and this eliminates that portion of the oil change mess.

Will update after the oilchange, as I asked for feedback on clearance for this valve from drysump owners and got no response. Only from Glen e who had it installed on a wetsump.

Can't understand the issue of not using a quality 6 point socket. I buy products and some tools from Habor Freight but only buy quality wrenches.

In fact the first time I removed the side plug from my Z51 pan, a 3/8 inch ratchet was not enough to loosen the plug. Put on an adapter for my 1/2 inch ratchet. Granted was at an angle under the car but it also did not loosen! Just slipped on my 1/2 inch drive plybar and it started with a snap. Appeared to have blue Loctite on the threads?!

The plug head was fine but replaced both plugs with quality, strong magnetic drain plugs.

I punch a hole in the bottom of the filter with a center punch. Let it drain through the hole and then spin it off.....no mess!

Once again, you can eliminate the filter mess by using a 1 gallon Ziploc bag. Loosen the filter, snake the bag opening over the filter and keep loosening while in the bag. Once it gets loose, it falls right in the bag, no mess, and you're ready to install the new one. I've been using this for about 10 years and it works perfect.

What kind of issues? I've done it on practically every car and outboard motor iVe owned in the last 5 to 7 years and works all the time for me…

I have, among other tools, this 6-point shallow socket set with inch/metric sockets that I use for tighter access. Works great.

This is on my C5, which has limited access to the oil pan drain plug, but illustrates how it makes the job easier.

As of this date, I am still under the 4 free oil changes from the GM dealer.

Once the free oil changes are used (2 left), yes I will drain my oil using the race ramps. The angle is fine.
