I chose a used '14 with the A6 over a new A8. Mostly word of mouth and the horror stories online. Plus the '14 have a 100k powertrain warranty. I think the '15 with the A8s may have it too tough.

I just bought an A8 Grand Sport yesterday. If I have issues with it I am done with GM corvettes. I asked the salesman and general manager about the A8 issues and both said they have never heard of any problems. This is a fairly big dealer and have at least 25+ corvettes sitting on the lot/show room at any given time. I told them to read the forum and if I had problems especially after just jumping through all the buy back lemon law hoops with my stingray I would be up around someones neck, LOL. They did say, "drive it a week and if you have issues bring it back and we will undo the deal". Time will tell. Congrats on the 14.

I have owned a '14 with yhe A6 and now a '17with the A8. The A6 is a proven transmission.
In all honesty I don't notice much difference between them. I say get the model and year that you want and don't worry about the transmission!

The 2017 is much better only issue of jerky shifting might be the first few shifts of the morning then it's mostly fine.

Why is that? My C5, C6, and now C7 were all like that. The first few shifts in the morning are jerky. The C7 more so than any.

Almost pulled the trigger on a 17' A8 vert... salesman still waiting for my reply. I need to find a certified GM Tech to really confirm the issues or at least give me a warm and fuzzy feel to the A8. I still have my doubts.

Joe - just do it. The car has a great powertrain warranty if needed, and I have not heard of any 2017s having the bad torque converter issue. It might still have the jerky first few shifts in the morning, but my C5 and C6 both did it and I put a ton of miles on them with 0 issues. The failed TCs were in early A8s and supposedly was corrected Novemberish 2015 and later build date cars.

You will love this thing - I wouldn't buy 3 of them if they were turds, I promise u that

I own a problem free 2014 A6 and in the same situation on staying with my A6 or getting a new C7 A8. OP I would get a new 2017 A8 if you can afford it over a low mileage 2014 A6 because I believe GM finally got the bugs out of the A8 for 2017. However I would not trade my C7 A6 for a used 2015-2016 A8 because of the problems I read on this forum from SOMEof the owners.

This C7 will be a daily driver for me and plan on putting over 100k miles on it like my past vettes.

After countless research on the C7 A8. I cant help notice the displeasure of them. Either complaints of jerkiness or going into the shop for tranny related issues. I dont remember so much so with the A6's.

The C7 will not be tracked, nor will there be use of the paddle shift. I am also not looking for the Z51 features. It will be used but not abused. For someone that will use the heck out of it, which model should fit my needs? 2014 A6 with less than 5k miles or a New C7 A8? Am I worrying too much?

Appreciate the advice.

Joe.

Get a C7 Z06 w/A8....no issues!

Problem solved.

I just went through this same decision, used 2014 or ?? After looking at a half dozen used 14's A6 all with 10k miles or less the lowest price I could negotiate was 46k, few could be documented with paperwork that provided complete history since new. I did see 2 Z51's that had all paperwork and low miles but I found the ride for me too stiff and price at or above 50k. And only 3 had any remaining warranty (3/36) and that was 3 months. I just purchased a brand new 17' A8 1LT for 49.6 which includes shipping from dealer to my house. Piece of mind now with the full warranty and improvements have been made to the A8 since 15'. From what I've read the A8 is slightly quicker than the A6.

Same here /\ /\ /\ but for everyday driving (Not Tracking) you won't know the difference. I drove them both before purchasing....

Fixed that for you...no C7s are running 3.8 in 1/4 mile
