Weird that the car magazines like the GS over the Z06 at least until the ZR1 arrives
All the car enthusiast magazines seem to like the GS better than the Z06 and call the GS vette the best Vette Yet. I have never heard in all my years of owning Corvetters a car like the Z06 being punished for being to fast. Makes no sense that the GS C7 is being said to be the best Vette yet over the Z06 C7. With the ZR1 coming out will the GS still be the best Vette yet or will that statement be gone as soon as the ZR1 is released. Also I am looking at New GS'S so I would be happy owning the best Vette yet but in my mind the Z06 right now is the best Vette yet.

Strange, I find it as street ready as other lesser capable cars I have had like a 300ZXTT or a GTA way back in the day. The Grand National, now that was squirrely to drive.

No matter what they say the Z06 is at the top of the heap.

I was reading Car and Driver's very appreciative review of the GS just last night, and the gist of it was that GS was in the sweet spot with all the performance one reasonably could use on the street, at a cost about $15K under the Z.

I've said it before, but the LT4 simply overpowers the rubber and mechanical grip of the Z.
This is the C7 Z06's Achilles Heel in an otherwise damn near perfect Sportscar IMO.

I will say .. for those in the North Georgia area .. there is a car race club called Atlanta Motorsports Park. Friend of mine belongs to club and has an Ultima GT. I was talking to him the other day and told him that I bought a Grand Sport but originally was thinking about a 2016 Clearance Z06. He said 2 guys in the club have Z06's and both have Overheating issues and have spent a bit of money on modifying them for extra cooling. He said he is thinking about getting a Vette to race at the club .. and it will be a Grand Sport with Z07 package and not a Z06 just because of the other members issues.

The Z06/7 could use even more aero (downforce) with a wing on the back to keep it better planted for putting the power down...hence the upcoming ZR1. Without that the Grand Sport/Z07 being more balanced is easier to control. However the Grand Sport/Z07 M7 is NOT your 1/4 miler.
Soon there will be yet another choice to fill anyone's Corvette dream!

I think the reason they like the GS better in some cases is the engine is NA, so it won't encounter the same heat soak issues that dogged the 2015-16 Z06. I thought those issues were addressed for 2017?
Bottom line is the Z06 is the better Vette, by all objective standards. It's only when you take into account certain subjective preferences that many find the GS to be better. I'm a GS owner, and I can easily admit this. I don't think I have Z06 envy...

Nannies?
NOOOOOooooooooo.............
As much as I hate the look of the biga$$ wing in the photos of the ZR1(?), anything to increase rear grip would dramatically lower times.
NEVER EVER a whiff of understeer on the Z...it's always the threat of oversteer that hampers the car.

Are these magazines even relevant any more?

The auto journalist just drank the koolaid that GM laid out...
The grand sport is an awesome sports car but I'd still suggest the z06 is still the preferred choice if you want the best corvette right now...
