"Mid Life Crisis" accusations?

Just bought my first vette about 3 months ago at age 46. 09 AO Z51. A few peeps have made the Midlife crisis comment and I just tell them no, the 25 year old hookers take care of that. That is usually the end of the conversation.

Mid life issue.....compensating for something....show off...gotta prove something.... It all comes up sooner or later...heck even other corvette owners here on the forum say **** about Z06 owners
I roll with it, I got what I have because I wanted it and I can afford it.

Mid-Life Crises.
That's just one of several stereotypes regarding guys driving Corvettes. Here are some more, just to prepare you:
Gold chains. White shoes and white belts. Tiny pecker. Hairy chest showing through half-way opened shirt. Bad toupees. Trying to recapture our youth.

Sorry to say this, but buying a Vette at 50 does not constitute 'mid life crisis.'
How many 100 year olds do you know?

I've heard that saying before, but have just blown it off. Jealously by those that say it comes to mind.

In my most humble opinion, Mid-Life is most likely a range of ages from maybe 45 or so up to perhaps 65 or thereabouts. Probably between the ages of when a person has been settled a while into their career and when they retire. The years when the realization sets in that I've pretty much gone as far as I'm going to go in life. After that, it's not mid-life any longer....just those glorious years of retirement where every day is the weekend.
Most responses here treat Mid life as the precise halfway point in one's life. Were that the case, my mid life was when I was 32 and I'm not buying that. Those were still the days of my youth, as far as I'm concerned.
YRMV.

Mid life crisis usually shows up a little earlier than your 50s. More like in the mid 40s. Very well symbolized by the late 70s movie called Middle Age Crazy. It starts with a guy (played by Bruce Dern) sitting at his son's high school graduation ceremony bemoaning how old 42 is. Then he buys a Porsche 928 and starts running around with a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader while leaving his beautiful wife (played by Ann Margaret, I always lusted after Ann Margaret) at home.

I got accused of that when I bought my first Vette, and I was only in my 30's. I just replied, "Yup, and I'm enjoying every minute of it."

Well, this is a somewhat related story. I've owned a few "Cigarette" boats. Trust me when I say I did it with smoke and mirrors....but on to the story.
Several years ago I was getting ready to back a new one I had just bought into the water. Some guy walks up to me and asks the one question I really hate being asked...."how much did that thing cost". I paused for about two seconds, gave him a slightly quizzical look then said "ya know, I don't really know. My accountant just cut a check for it".
BTW, I have had the mid-life question several times. Like others have said, my response is always that I've been going through it for the past 40 years.

I only had one person ask me the question and he didn't want to offend me or anything and it was a co-worker. I just told him I had my first Corvette when I was 21 years old and it was not a mid-life crisis even though I was single at the time. He understood and I could tell he wished he had one too. I believe for the most part the Corvette owners like the car and if they buy it because they can afford it. I always feel sad for the owners who wait until they are very old to buy the car and they die within a few years. I have seen this quite often. You are better off buying these cars when you are younger to truly enjoy the hobby for many years. A mid-life crisis is generally associated with a girlfriend on the side and I don't consider a car a girlfriend! Ha!

Yes, a couple time I heard the "mid-life crisis" comment. Another called it my "401K car", (no way I would touch the retirement funds to buy a toy) and finally it's been called my "retirement toy". That's probably a little more accurate. But when asked what I'd call it, both the C5 I picked up in 2012 and the C7 I traded the C5 for this year are my "Thank You Consulting Clients Corvettes".

Frankly I don't give a **** what they think. I'm the one driving the Vette.

Bought my first Vette in 98 at age 50, my 2014 is my fourth. No chest hair, Porsches too expensive, and I still love my (first) wife.

Just turned 50 this month and have always drove modified sports cars and the Vette is no exception. My ex-wife called me on my birthday and we got to talking and cars came up and she asked what I was driving now and I told her a new vette and her reply was" you have to be kidding me, I would run if some guy came to pick me up in that!" my response "and that is why your my ex-wife!" and hung up.
"If you were my husband, I'd poison your tea!"

"If you were my wife, I'd drink it..."
