Default "Mid Life Crisis" accusations?

It is no secret that the majority of new Corvette purchases are made by men in their 50's and 60's. Many times we are typecast as having a "Mid Life Crisis" for purchasing a Corvette!
I was accused of this at the dealership where I purchased my latest new Corvette a couple of months ago. Some guy about my age, approaches me at the dealership as I was checking out my soon to be purchase. He said to me, " Mid Life Crisis eh"? Not to be bothered with explaining myself, I just smiled and said, "Yeah right". Little did this guy know that this Corvette was my 35th Corvette since I was 18 years old. I have had Corvettes in my teens, 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and now 60's. Hardly a Mid Life Crisis, but rather a life long passion!
Just curious for those of you who are 50+ of age...Have you too been accused of having a "Mid Life Crisis" for your Corvette purchase?

Mid-Life Crises.

That's just one of several stereotypes regarding guys driving Corvettes. Here are some more, just to prepare you:

Gold chains. White shoes and white belts. Tiny pecker. Hairy chest showing through half-way opened shirt. Bad toupees. Trying to recapture our youth.

People are going to talk. Let 'em. In the meantime, we're driving one of the worlds best sports cars and loving it. What are they driving?

I would have smiled and given a "yeah, right" response also, but to answer, I haven't heard that, and like you, I've been involved with Corvettes since I was teenager.

Yeah, I've never understood it. I've gotten that a handful of times. Which is odd because I bought my first brand new C5 when I was 27. 46 now and just picked up the Z pictured below. Kept my'09 too so that must mean I am in double crisis??!!??

The few times this has come up my response is:

"Well, the only crisis I can see is not having a Corvette." Generally shuts these dipsticks up.

Not mid life crisis but funny story. Shortly after I purchased my 2016 Torch Red in June a friend said, "damn, you must have really liked Prince". LMAO

Yep...I've heard it too.

I've owned 11 so far and my first was a 66 427 w/side pipes when I was 18.

So much for that theory....

35! Wow.

This is my 4th. I got my first in my 30's.

Personally I often say "This is my <x> vette - if I'm in a mid life crisis it's a damn long one!" (where x = 4 for me and 35 for you). That's what I would have said.

Yea...most accusatory people that say "midlife crisis" will also try to tell you that they know the size of your male appendage.

I usually don't acknowledge their existence nor their comment. If they push me about it, I just tell them that I work 3 jobs, many times 7 days a week to save for this car. Years and years of hard work usually shuts them up.

35? good for you my friend, this is only my 4th and I bought my first at 18, had a 58, 63 split window coupe (damn I wish I never sold that one) and a 67, 427 coupe, now at the retired young age of 66 just bought a C7. As you said it's a passion!! I only look and smile since I own one and they just don't understand what corvette in your blood is. I also make sure when the ride with me they have no choice but to listen to Grateful Dead blasting.
This could be an interesting thread

During my "mid-life" I was too busy trying to raise a family to afford a Vette. However, at age 72 I am on my second one. Might just be my last one so I will enjoy the ride.

I get it all the time, I tell them it started when I was 20 years old.
I'm 67 and started buying Vettes at 20, I'm on my 7th now

In 1991 I went to buy a new Vette and the Salesman says "your an older fella I have a subdued color for you" so he shows me a Polo Green 91 coupe that I bought because I like the color.
Now at 67 I'm driving Torch Red, not a subdued color...LOL

I got the "mid life crisis" accusation, but it was said in jest by a coworker. I just laughed and said "Yeah, that's it."

I've had the midlife crisis thing tossed at me. I'm cool with it. I'm a car guy and I'm 46, so they're probably 1/2 right. Some lady even mentioned the size of my appendage. I told her I'd be happy to show her, but maybe we should have a couple drinks first so we can get to know each other a little.

I read that the average Corvette buyer is a white male, 59 years of age. Sometimes stereotypes are accurate, however inappropriate they may be!

In my case, no stranger has ever said anything to me about a mid-life crisis. Maybe friends or family have made a couple jokes about it, but I don't really recall. Anyone who knows me knows I've been obsessed with Corvettes since I was a little kid, and my Uncle had a '68 'Silverstone Silver' 327 convertible. He was my childhood hero, and for me to be able to ride in that Vette with him made me one happy kid.

As I grew older, most other men in my immediate family have had Vettes, no matter what their ages. I was fortunate to get my first one when I was 49 years old, and received plenty of congratulations comments, but I don't recall any mid life crisis comments. If that had been the case, I've been having a mid life crisis since I was about 7 years old!
