DOHC for 2018?
https://www.yahoo.com/news/2018-corv...181702787.html
Seems to be no lack of speculation. the picture they posted with it doesn't even seem to be an OHC let alone DOHC LOL

If the source is yahoo keep in mind they essentially fake news. They wouldn't know a DOHC if it knocked them over their snowflake heads!

Just read that GM is going to spend a pile of money on the Tonawanda engine plant.

Think people! Why in hell would you replace one of the best engine designs in the world for an extremely more expensive & complicated engine that doesn't have the torque, horsepower or economic advantages? It's nuts! BTW did Porsche abandon the flat boxer six? No! Why? Because it's their trademark and it's stupid to abandon it because it works & if it ain't broke, then don't fix it!

Well, the article actually is factually based, in that GM is officially listing a new "LT5" 6.2L DOHC engine to be used exclusively for Corvette. This is based on a GM document that was sent to GM service staff. This document was supposed to be used internally only but was leaked to the public. Granted, this is not concrete evidence that it is for sure going to happen, but there's certainly something to it.
Also, the end of the article makes mention that their picture is of the current Corvette engine. They're not trying to pass that off as the new DOHC engine.

Go to Mercuryracing.com. Click on the Link "automotive". They just released a DOHC based on a 7.0 liter GM block. It made 775 HP at 7,500 rpm on 91 octane. YEA BABY!!!
Remember, Mercury Racing assembled the LT5 for the fourth gen ZR1, looks like history gets to repeat itself at twice the horsepower!!!
Mercury has been building this DOHC for the marine engines for a few years so they should have some economies in place. They even do a twin turbo at 1,450 HP!!!

Isn't the LT5 the engine that is going in the new ZR1?

- Wow!
That LT5 would be a very nice engine upgrade for the Vette.
But the LT1 is a thing of wonder and beauty and IMO it will prove hard for the LT5 to really improve upon it in most road use, no matter how nice it is. I mean, how often do we say, "That Vette would be a really nice car if it just had more motor".

The ZR-1 is getting a bigger blower versus the Z06 LT4. I think that's called LT6. That's for 2018.
Or so I hear.

I just ordered a 2017 Stingray 2LT coupe - LT1 pushrod engine and all. Would I be sad if Chevy upgraded to the new LT5 for next year? Perhaps a bit; but I am so happy to be able to even own a Corvette. Everyone loves these cars and only those who are enthusiasts really know the subtle differences between the Stingray, GS, Z06, etc., etc.
With 460 hp, it will still go faster than I'll ever take it - even with the "slow" engine in it.
