Default Dealer doesn't know which oil to use

I dropped my car off this morning and the service tech did not know which oil my car took. He asked if I wanted a synthetic blend or full synthetic oil. It's a ******* Corvette. Don't they all come from the factory with full synthetic? I'm stressing about whether or not they're going to put the correct oil in. Incredible.

Chill. While they come from the factory with Mobil 1 full synthetic the spec for the car is semi-synthetic. Perhaps you should read your owner's manual.

I bet he knew the right form to use when submitting his invoice to GM. Many dealerships have way too many small minds working for them.

I'd expect the owner of the car to know, the owner of the car not to come on an open forum and have to curse, and the owner of the car to understand the clear advice/suggestions given to him in the posts following his first post. That's what I'd expect.

He no doubt want's to use the "Oh So Peachy" blend that met GM dexos spec that he bought cheap in the 55 gallon drums for his oil change bay!

Was checking to see if you knew he was supposed to use Mobil 1 as has been stated in a number of GM bulletins!

If you shrugged and said I don't know guess what you would get!

I knew it took synthetic since my Escalade comes with it from the factory as well. Who the hell puts non-synthectic in their Vettes?

I googled it on the spot and told him to use full Mobil-1 synthetic as per GMs TSB. Car is paid for and I plan on keeping it for years to come so I'm very picky when it comes to maintenance.

The problem the Customer has is they are expecting everybody to remember what the Corvette takes when 99% of the cars they service on a day in day out basis use the standard Dexos Vs Mobil 1 Dexos. When the Customer reminds them the Customer has to be ready for the immediate push back since we all know Service People see more than their fair share of stupid people. Don't think about it from your position, think about it from the Service Person's standpoint. Then if they don't see the facts then you have to do something else to convince them. The Service Writer at the very good dealership I take my car to tells me the car takes Dexos not Mobil 1. The mechanic who does the work tells me he puts Mobil 1 in the car because that is what is called for in his documentation. He told me the Service Writer thinks I put in Dexos and I did, it was just Dexos rated Mobil 1.

"Who the hell puts non-synthectic in their Vettes?" Your quote.

Well, how about Chevrolet, for instance? If it's not a Z06 or Z51 and you read your owner's manual, you'll see the spec is for "Dexos1." Dexos1 is a GM tech criteria for oil and it can apply to blends (of dino and syn), as well as for full-synthetic oil.

Of course I would (and I do). It's the choice of words that that I'm referring to.

I used the GM Dexos 1 the first couple of oil changes, then switched to full synthetic.
Either one is fine for 99% of the Corvette owners.

Alright folks - picked up my car and my oil life monitor still reads 47%. The sticker on the windshield was not changed, either. I'm beginning to wonder if they even did the work. Car wasn't washed or cleaned as well.

Should I send an email out to the manager of that dealer? This is just unacceptable.

What's unacceptable? They didn't push a button to reset the OLM? They didn't remove a windshield decal (which is useless BTW)? You can do both of those in literally 10 seconds.

Personally I don't want the dealer's washbay guy washing my car.

It's a Chevrolet and a Chevrolet dealer. Be civil to them instead of expecting special treatment and you'll probably see a difference in how they treat you.

Did you check the mileage and make sure they didn't pull a Ferris Bueller on you as well? LOL

Two Options:

1. Change dealerships for next oil change.
2. Do it yourself to make sure it is done to your satisfaction.
