Flying Roof Club - Never Again! Free Mod
Yes, the best kind of MOD - a free one!
This is not my idea, so I will not take credit. But if you don't want to become a member of the expensive Flying Roof Club - get off your duff and do this NOW!
I started with a couple of strips of wast left over Christmas ribbon, but I spent a couple bucks and got these as a replacement for the ribbon. You need a foot of fishing line, and a couple pieces of duct tape.
Self explanatory. Just shove them up behind the handles. They will not interfere with operation or anything. And when you open up the handles, just let them hang as a reminder to latch them.
Enjoy your Corvette Tax-free mod.
Don't wait until your roof goes a-flying before doing this!

Fortunately I still have enough brain cells to always remember to latch mine, I have a system of putting it on and never stray from it.

I never forgot to latch the roof. On the C4 you actually bolt it in place, the C6 is latched similar to the C7. No more problems, I now own a C7 convertible an will never go back to a coupe.

With over 100,000+ C7's produced (2014 to 2017), how many people really have had their removable roof's fly off?
I suspect the reason is pure negligence on the individual owner not properly locking and securing the top once it is replaced on the car.
There can be no other reasonable explanation of why the roof tops fly off.
It is not a GM problem. It is the owners negligence.

It's NOT a design issue. I agree there.
Regardless of how meticulous you/we might be with the roofs, all it takes is a distraction, a subtle momentary change in that installing routine and you'll forget to latch it. Never say you'll never forget.

Plenty of "Top Gun" pilots have ample brain cells too, but everyone has a bad day every so often. The reason aviation is so safe is because precautions such as discussed in this thread are MANDATORY.

Still blows my mind that with all the dumb safety features an auto manufacture is required to have by law, such as an open door chime (No **** my doors open, I opened it and can clearly see its open!!!), somehow chevy isn't required or even feel obligated to put a safety light or chime on that roof. A simple and inexpensive reed switch with a magnet built into the latch handle would do the trick, wouldn't be hard, wouldn't add any significant weight, would be safer for everyone on the road, and save many owners hundreds of dollars.

Guy named Ripcord thanks the OP's post.
Av, is so safe, because of checklists - simple and repetitious though they be.

Yes I thanked him. He went to the trouble of sharing his idea with the forum whether you like the idea or not, good for him and I appreciate his effort. Would I implement this idea? No, on the rare occasion I remove the roof, when it goes back on, I do not interrupt the re-installation process. So, thanks again OP, I'm sure there are people who will like your idea and use it.

I basically talk myself through the process of removal and replacement each time, which helps me complete all the steps. So far, so good. But the OPs suggestion is worthy IMO.

The time I left one latch undone was due to a change in my routine. I usually install it from the drivers side, but I was parked next to a curb and couldn't stand/balance very well, so I did it from the other side. Completely forgot to latch the drivers side. It was night.
It CAN happen to you.

As I said, I have I system I follow that doesn't include things hanging down, we all cope with these things in different ways, I trust my way.

I incorporated a hanging string from the hand crank in my last motor home that would hang from the ceiling when your bat wing antennae was in the full upright position when parked for TV reception. Hopefully, you would notice it hanging in the salon area, before getting underway. My Dad devised the hanging string system as an aid to remind the operator, just like this guy does. I think it's a great idea. I don't always do a walk around and walk through my coach, seeing that everything is secure, but I should. Especially the walk around as airline pilots do before every flight.
