[QUOTE=B&BVettes;1593788740]No problems with my A8 GS. But do what you think is best....
That was a shameless plug Car looks unbelievable
Dave, how can you resist one of these? In reality there aren't nearly as many A8 problems as you believe, and what are the odds you would get faulty one?

It's a lot of $Dough, what the new Vettes cost. It's also very much an elective choice that one makes to spend twice what would be required to buy a very nice, new automobile. The man also owns one that he's comfortable with and presumably enjoys. Personal choice, sound reasoning.
There is a fair amount of complaining within the Corvette owner's community centered around a perception that GM "knowingly" continues to produce cars that may contain chronic design-related component problems. Its just a guess on my part, but if more buyer's took Dave's course with their investment decisions, perhaps that perception would be baseless.

What some do not realize is that Chevy mechanics are used to oil changes or relativley easy repairs, brakes etc. they are not transmission guys..nor do they have much tranny experiance. Especially in the small town areas. So when they tear into the A8 to fit a new Torque Tube or somthing else, Well...good luck with that..You are right to hold off for a bit or get a manual..Remember the simpler design the better. A 1lT with no dry sump is again simpler design ..No oil leaking into intake problems. Horsepower is the same in all C7s. All these Torque Tube problems should have never happend. Or been corrected in the 2015 year. yet it continues into 2017

^^^ Yes but Most (not all) have low milage cars. Hopefully those who do not have problems with the A8 now will contunue to do so as the miles pile on..This remains to be seen. G M should be ashamed of this. People with new 60k cars have to have their vehicle torn apart..outrageous to me anyway.

LOL . . . it would probably look equally beautiful sitting there with no transmission in it. It is pretty.
I suspect the majority are not having problems, not reporting problems, not noticing a problem, or maybe just living with it since many are garage queens. I've been on a dozen or so car forums since the beginning of car forums, and I haven't heard the same number of problems about the same issue, since the fixed-roofs on C6 Z06s started de-bonding and flying off in 06-07.

So it has become necessary to announce when you are NOT going to buy a car now? When did this procedure start? Do people actually go around car forums and post that they DIDN'T buy that particular car? Who does this? Why do they do it? Explain, with details.
Not even sure why I clicked this thread. Anyhow, I will be and have been enjoying my problem free Z06, every minute of it, while some wait for the "next best thing".

Perhaps, but a lot of folks keep reading this A8 stuff, and feel more warm and fuzzy about the probability of having a lot more trouble-free fun in an M7 or another car w/ DCT technology. Moreover, other "slush-box" autos, such as the ZF8, have been bullet-proof in cars like the Jaguar F-Type with no problems reported on forums or anywhere else like reported here.
As for me, the only C7 or any other comparable car I'd be interested at this point in my life is a manual. I did have a go with the F-Type and Porsche PDK, and just found them boring. I may be a dinosaur, but I do know what I enjoy more. It's just a matter of personal preference, and it's the only reason I came back to Corvette.

Until GM offers a PDK competitor, that performs as advertised, and without issues,
many of us will continue to drive our manual Corvettes, and refuse to allow GM, and biased A6/A8 owners, to try to deny reality and lie to prospective buyers.
Here's hoping for a Corvette DCT to be announced in Detroit within a week......

GM has a real problem with the A8. Not only in the Corvette. They continue to produce cars and trucks with these flawed units even though they have gone through several revisions already and they know it's a poor shifting POS. They made a choice to continue producing and installing it and denying anything is wrong with it. Even though GM says there is nothing wrong with it's jerky shifting and vibrations the customer is still King. If the customer says it's flawed and just look at complaints throughout all the GM forums ITS FLAWED. It really doesn't matter what GM thinks or says at this point. If it doesn't perform "as perceived" by the customer, preforming "as designed" by GM Does NOT make it suddenly right and acceptable to the consumer that paid for it in good faith and has to live with it every day. One would expect it to shift at least as smoothly and reliably as an A6 and it surly does NOT and that's all the buyer really expects from GM and the A8. GM your consumer is not as stupid as you think they are.

I was in the process of dealing for a NEW GS A8 VERT and trading in my 2014 Z51 A6 vert but I am still hearing problems from forum members that own 2017 A8 trannies having issues and problems. I like to upgrade every 3 years if I can but not this time until GM resolves all the problems that certain A8 transmissions are having. Seems like a new thread on a problem with a A8 happening almost every day and other members chiming in on that same thread about their own A8 issues. I will be keeping my LOWLY A6 until all problems are solved. Engine and tranny are to me the two most important technical parts of the car so the last thing I want is my new C7 A8 tranny taken apart and put back together. Really feel sorry for you guys having these issues with your A8'S. Good luck and maybe soon I will be in the A8 club but for now I am staying in the A6 club.
OK...your choice....
....(that is me driving my 2017 A8 GS!)

Dave,
Smart Move!
When I bought my '15 Z51 in April of 15, the A8 issues were just beginning discovered. I was teetering on whether to buy a '14 A6 or a '15 A8 and decided that I would get the latest and greatest A8. Big mistake! Tranny replaced with 100 miles on the clock...
I would have thought that GM would have this all sorted out by now, but they seem to be cranking out '17's with the same old issues.
