Default Clutch master cylinder not covered under powertrain

Just got the news that at 60,000 miles, my clutch master cylinder is leaking and needs to be replaced. They said it is not covered under the 100,000 power-train warranty.... going to be more than a grand to fix it...

I can kind of see it as not being covered but that does stink. 60,000 miles on a C7 - whoa............ I have 3100 miles on a 2014 delivered to me on December 28, 2013. Guess you've driven yours more.

Clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder? It is hard to see how the cost of the master cylinder replacement would be that high. The list price on the master cylinder is $175 and it doesn't take a lot of labor to replace it. It will take some labor to bleed it since it requires two people and pulling the left side cat.

Now if it is the slave cylinder that costs $364 and there is a lot more labor involved in replacing it since everything from the rear wheels to the bellhousing has to be dropped. I could see the cost coming in at $1700 or $1800
.

Bill,

I think you may be right as the service advisor indicated there was a great deal of labor involved. When I got the call I was in shock...still am.... It is at a pretty reputable dealer here in Central Florida so I do not think they are trying to screw me. I brought it in for an engine running hot issue which turned out to be the water pump (which is covered by the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty). I asked them to do the scheduled maintenance as well and that is when they found the additional issue.

My everyday driver! Despite this issue, I love driving this car! It has been pretty reliable (mostly ) I'm looking to take this one up to 150,000 at least....

Well at least you will get your clutch fluid changed out. That is the darnedest design I've ever seen that allows clutch dust to enter the clutch fluid. The clutch fluids need to be flushed on a 2 year basis although the op seems to put a lot of miles on so I'd guess more often than 2 years.

Why would any part of the clutch not be covered by the power train warranty?
