Tire cost (as of 12 JAN)
Driving either a Z06 of Grand Sport, I was curious to the cost of current replacement tires. I had always assumed (You know what that means...) the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires were more expensive. I just did a comparison on TireRack. These figures are Totals for all 4 tires in the correct sizes:
Pilot Super Sport $1,723
Pilot Sport Cup 2 $1,616
I was a bit shocked. from ONLY looking at the UTQG rating it appears that IF your were to put the same amount of MILES on each the PSS would get just a bit less than 4X the number of miles per set. So in the end the cost would NOT be better, but still I expected them to wear much faster AND cost much more.

Only thing I found was the UTQG ratings (which are established by the manufacturers... Since they are both Michelins I am expecting they'd be some what relevant.
PSS UTQG 300 AA A
PSC UTQG 80 AA A
My understanding is the numerical rating is what determines the life of the tread compared to the tire itself (or a control tire) during a 7,200 mile road course.
The AA id traction - ability to hold in G's
The A is Temp/Speed rating.

There were some people trying to sell their takeoffs for $1700 just a month ago and their prices are more than you can get a brand new set of tires for now.

The Cup 2 tire prices just took a drop of about $600. If you had looked in December the Cup2 prices would have been $2200 to replace all 4.

I am almost considering buying a set of cup2 just to store until Summer. or next for track sessions, though I am not a track guy currently so I need to research a bit. I would think for track use only you could get even better specialty tires.

In real world driving conditions I have seen the PS Cup 2 tires average between 6,000 and 8,000 miles depending on driving style when placed on a C7 Z06 or Grand Sport. Now that can be shortened all the way down to 2,500 miles if taken onto a road course extensively and even less if you set the alignment to negative camber for autocross, etc and actually drive to the track on them. Keep in mind that these car are track capable and they have a more aggressive alignment which can be altered if you are looking for more mileage out of the tires with a slight sacrifice in handling performance. AKA the PFadt Street alignment specs from the C6 Grand Sports, etc. I have noticed an average of 16,000 to 19,000 when the PS ZP2 are installed with no alteration. I have seen the PS ZP2 get over 26,000 when on a Z51 that was never driven hard and the alignment altered. So this really isn't a mileage report, just a heads up on what I've seen after servicing over 4,000 of these beautiful C7's since launch. Still a much better tire then the outgoing Goodyear EMT's from the C6 all around.

I saw a PSS pricing gap, as I replaced my tires in the beginning of the month. A local dealership had this new pricing on their website, and was beating tirerack and everywhere else. When I called in to order the tires by phone, they quoted me the old pricing (which with their markup was north of $2500/set).
I pointed them to their online pricing, and after a consult with their parts manager, they honored the pricing. Parts guy told me it was less than their cost for them. Looks like I lucked out, catching the bleeding edge of the new pricing.
