Default 2015 Crystal Red Tintcoat vs 2017 Long Beach Red Tintcoat

The 'Crystal Red Tintcoat' paint has always been my favorite for red colored Corvettes.

However, in 2016, they dropped the optional Crystal Red Tintcoat for the new $995 optional 'Long Beach Red Tintcoat' paint.

These two colors look very similar from photos I have seen, but I have never seen the two colors side by side in real life.

For you folks that are more familiar with these two colors ... Is there really very much difference between the two? ... Again, they sure look the same from what I can tell.

BTW .... I wish they would bring back 'Supersonic Blue Tintcoat'

As you can see from that thread, there is quite a big difference between the two colors, the best way to describe them would be that Crystal Red looks like a bright Candy Apple Red, while Long Beach Red looks more like a dark metallic burgundy or maroon.

Exactly !

I think I like the Crystal Red Tintcoat better.

Still wish they would make 'Supersonic Blue' Tintcoat avail for the C7.

I like Crystal Red better myself also. I have always been a fan of Candy Apple Red, I had a Mustang GT painted in that color and loved it! I have seen Long Beach Red a few times in person and I really love it in the bright sunlight (it looks like a very dark version of Candy Apple Red then, it has so much depth to it!) but I have seen it under cloudy skies and find it just doesn't have the same pop to it that I prefer. I actually find that same thing happens with my LeMans Blue C6, the color looks awesome in the bright sun, but on cloudy days it looks dull to me.

My Supersonic Blue 2011 GS also looks great in sunlight, but looks very dull on cloudy days.

Had a Crystal Red Metallic C6 and looked at Long Beach Red in person when shopping a C7.
A lot Darker in or out of the Sun than the Crystal Red.
Very Nice color, ... just too Dark for my taste.

I have the CRM on my 14 Z51. It has a lot more gold metallic in the sunlight than the LBR. I agree with the above posts in that the Long Beach is much darker, more like the old Monterey Red on the C6. The Long Beach looks good in direct sunlight but not as good in cloudy or shaded conditions.

You are correct. I have LBR and in the garage it looks marron but in the sunlight the red pops out.

Those reds were both ones I considered, but in the end I went with Black Rose Metallic (also a red of sorts).
