^Yeah, I definitely wouldn't call Wikipedia the authority on these definitions. Wikipedia does not control the language nor the definition of words.
In my estimation, these definitions are defined by context. If, in context "pony car" means "horse-drawn carriage" then it means horse-drawn carriage.

No one. I was just pointing out what the majority of car enthusiasts view as the "definitions" of sports/pony/muscle cars. If you disagree, well, it's a free country.

I would suppose everybody is the source, yeah? We all employ our own dictionaries and our own definitions of words. What's important is that we can effectively convey a thought with another, and if that involves clarifying these ambiguous terms, contextually, or avoiding their use altogether.
For instance: my dad might call it a pony car, and my brother calls it a sports car, and my uncle calls it a muscle car. None of them are necessarily wrong or right, they just employ different definitions when using the those words. All three of us know what he's talking about when he says "joemosfet's sports car" so why be a pedantic jerk and try to correct his definition of the word?
Here's a fun one for the pedants:

The Corvette is not a Muscle Car, it's a World Class Sports Car! And not so much a "Common Man Car" either. In fact no $60,000-$120,000 car is! And change is okay sometimes, we can't get stuck in the same routine all the time. But don't worry, I am sure whatever GM does to the Corvette, it will most probably be for the better and hopefully please some of the Good Ol Boys that are still around and also the new generation of younger affluent European High-End car buyers out there.

Time will tell whether a hybrid Vette will be made, but it could be an interesting model if they do decide to offer one up.
