Default 7 Speed or 8 Speed Auto GS

Hello, I have a question concerning the 2017 GS. I'm considering buying a new 2017 GS in May of this year. I currently have a 3100 mile 2011 6 speed manual GS. My last 4 Corvettes have also been 6 speed manuals. My friends are trying to convince me an auto is the way to go. I test drove both a 7 speed manual and a 8 speed auto (liked them both for the short ride). But still not sure which I would like better in the long run. I use the car only to go to cruise nights in the summer (maybe 500-600 miles for the season). Those of you who had manuals and switched to auto's are you happy with your choice or do you miss shifting? Thanks!

It is a sports car, it is meant to be shifted.....by you

Easy decision, at least for me. No regrets at all on buying an M7.

If you are accustomed to a manual there is no reason to go auto, that is, unless you've grown lazy in old age.

My 2001 and 2009 were 6 speeds. The 2013 was an auto. My incoming 2017 is a 7 speed. They all have there place. Switch it up and try an auto. Life is boring with the same kind of car all the time.

Thanks guys for all your good points. (Snowwolf, I like your avatar. I have a 150 pound Alaskan Malamute). As far as getting lazy I am a 63 year old fart. Also I like the new Black Rose color, what do you think?

If you want to be fast, go auto. If you want to be cool, go manual.

Plus the 7 speed manual is more reliable!

Thanks, but that is actually a photo of a wild wolf I took in Denali park around 1992. One of my best sellers during my days as a wildlife photographer.

If you are only going to drive it on the street, get a manual. Any type of racing, road course, drag, roll racing etc, get the A8.

Just picked up my Black Rose GS with M7 last week. I NEVER even considered an A8. I want to drive the car, not the other way around. My C5 was an auto, and I traded it in on a C6 MN7. For me, there is just something about the control and feel of a manual that can't be duplicated in an auto.

BTW - I am getting more positive comments about Black Rose than the color of any other car I have ever owned.

I would definitely go with the manual trans if you are only going to drive the car sparingly like that. If you were using the GS as a daily driver living in the city, then the A8 would be much more desirable.

I think Black Rose is beautiful,, though I chose LBR as a spousal compromise. If you're an old fart at 63, I fear for myself.
