Default Swap 2014 Stingray MSRC shocks for 2019 ZR1 MSRC shocks

Compatible: 2019 CORVETTE C7 ZR1 OEM MAGNETIC SUSPENSION STRUTS SHOCKS - FRONT REAR FOR 2014 CORVETTE C7 STINGRAY OEM MAGNETIC SUSPENSION STRUTS SHOCKS - FRONT REAR?

I've posted this before. My Chevy dealer won't give me a straight answer. Can I put 2019 ZR1 ride control shocks on my 2014 Stingray with ride control shocks. My 2014 shocks have Part Nos. 84235048FE4 (fronts) and 84235050FE4 (rears). This isn't rocket science. Why can't my Chevy dealer service advisor or parts dept. answer this question? IF I buy a set of used 2019 ZR1 shocks (1,700 miles) from ebay @ $600 I save over $2,500. If they don't work, I eat $600. I understand that the dealer wants to sell me new shocks at retail rather than install used shocks. They make more money. However, they've been having my car serviced there for seven years. Why can't I get a straight answer? I'm frustrated! Can anyone help?

If the shocks fit, and they might, it occurs to me that the biggest hurdle may be getting your car's suspension control system to load the software that will allow it to work correctly with the ZR1 shocks. Even if all of that works, I suspect that the ZR1 shocks are going to be set up to work with much stiffer springs than you have on your 2014. Things to think about.

Good point. Let me see what the dealership has to say about that. Thanks for your input.

For the price difference I'd risk it. Worse case you have resell the used shocks. In theory the difference in the mag-ride shocks is all in the programming. My theory, based on GM's penny pinching, is all mag-ride shocks are the same. Why engineer completely different parts when the damper characteristic can be programmed electronically?

This GM parts site lists the shock as being compatible with pretty much all C7s models and years:

JMII-

That's pretty conclusive! The shocks fit my car -- and work. I think I'm going to go with that. Thank you very much!

Oddly if I put my 2014 Z51 into the "Check if this parts fits your car" section is claims it does not fit But if I put in a non-Z51 it claims it does The part is clearly a mag-ride shock. If I select a GS or Z06 (both of which come with mag-ride) then it says the part fits.

My car is Z51. Aren't all GS and Z06 C7 Vettes Z51?

The Z51 is just a package, a collection of various performance parts sold altogether. In 2014 the Z51 was listed as a separate model, but in later years it became (officially) just option package which lowers its Corvette Envy Points score around here so saying a GS is just a Z51 with a widebody is frowned upon despite it being a pretty accurate description. The GS and Z06 contain all of the Z51 parts such as dry sump engine and the eLSD for example. However mag-ride was an option on Z51s and even base C7s, but included on the GS and Z06.

So do you still think I should go ahead and order the shocks from ebay?

Well... per RockAuto - the ZR1 front shocks are a different part number then Z06, GS and Z51 so maybe the ZR1s fronts are internally different? The rears are listed as fitting ZR1 or Z06. The Z06 is listed with two different part numbers on the front due to the Z07 (FE7) option seems to be rabbit hole of possible combinations here.

Personally based on my digging around (things are slow at work today) I would try to find Z06 or GS shocks since those part numbers are the same per RockAuto. The ZR1 fronts seem to be the odd man out here

Worse case with the eBay ZR1s - maybe the car rides a little stiffer? What would you lose? Shipping cost + installation cost? Need more detailed information... as only GM knows for sure. And I doubt the tech at your local Chevy parts counter knows anymore then what his computer tells him.

I took your first advice and ordered the shocks on ebay today for $661.48 with tax. I emailed your attachment to my Chevy dealer service advisor and he responded: "I had a chance to review your email and it appears that those will work with your vehicle. Part Number is correct, and under the part description it states the 'FE4' which is specific to your vehicle. Let me know when you get them." I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again for your help.

Before I got ny 14 Stignray, I had an 08 Honda S2000 with 95,000 miles. I swapped for shocks with very low mileage. it worked out great!

Replied via PM.

Let everyone if this works once you get the parts on. Since the mag-ride shocks are known to leak cross referencing these part numbers will be helpful to others. Who knows maybe ZR1 guys can use base shocks - I assume ZR1 specific parts aren’t very common and thus hard to source.

I got the MSRC shocks (1,700 miles) and just had them installed. They're perfect! What a difference. (My old shocks with 93,000 miles were shot.) I couldn't be happier. It was a hassle, but well worth it. It was a risk they wouldn't work -- a crap shoot. No one could tell me conclusively. I saved over $3,000. Thanks again, LMII, for all your technical help. I couldn't have done it without you.

To save that much coin it was well worth the risk to try. Glad it worked out

Sometimes the "experts" (IE: the dealer) is just reading what the computer tells them

Wow who knew ZR1 shocks would fit a Ray. So the mag shocks are the same part number for all C7's but just different programming? Cool deal.

Yeah, my Chevy dealer service advisor seemed surprised that everything fit perfectly. This ordeal took me three months, including deals that fell through, including one scammer alert on 11/5:

User “tomcat4t4” appears to be sending unsolicited PMs offering to sell items people have indicated a need for in WTB posts. If you listed a phone number, he may have sent the message via text. You may have received a message similar to the following:

We’ve banned tomcat4t4 and encourage you not to engage in any further communications with him.

Going forward, here are some suggestions to avoid scammers:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...nsactions.html

We aren't able to monitor PMs, so we don't know the scam is on until someone lets us know. . In this instance, afunk is the hero for following up on his suspicions and reporting them.

The quickest way to nip scams in the bud and dispatch the scammer is to report the suspicious PM by clicking on the triangle outlined in red at the top right of the PM.

Doing so immediately sends a copy of the suspicious PM to moderators and administrators and allows us act. Posting a thread is okay, but the thread may not be quickly noticed or reported to moderators/admins.

We’d strongly encourage you not to post your personal contact information in WTB threads. Doing so allows spammers to bypass Corvetteforum, making it more difficult to report their suspicious activity to moderators. It also keeps us from knowing what user ID they are using on the site.

I texted him and said I stopped the wire transfer. He replied: "Please, I need the money." I replied "You need to be in jail." He replied "What do you do when there is no other option to eat." Then " Can't you help with $200. That should hold me and my family up to a week. Please."

Admins/mods, if I shouldn't be posting this PM stuff, feel free to delete.
