I have been contemplating selling my C7 vert. I have had its since 1/2015 and have put 1k miles on her for a grand total of 4300 miles. I can't drive it to work (Chicago area not so good) so it is primarily a summer weekend car. Weekends come and go and I rarely get to take her out. I am at the point where I feel like I am just wasting money and would be better served getting something I could enjoy year round. Tough decision on a great car.

I lived in Michigan. Even avoiding snow, it still left me with Spring, Summer, and Fall to enjoy a nice car. There's not a whole lot of driving enjoyment with any car if it is snowing out.

OP, your problem is in your head. I don't think your area is any more challenging than mine in Washington, DC, and I drive it year-round and almost daily.

Not sure how to interpret the OP's concern to driving in the Chicago area? He's going to have to expound on that one.

One great concern to me in driving a C7 to me, will be; do I feel the car is safe where I park it? I think that's a wild card regards vandalism.

I never felt really good about driving my new C3 and parking it in the Overton Square area of Memphis, Tennessee when I lived there in the mid 1970s. However, I didn't take the Corvette out for entertainment all that often. In fact, my new C3 was vandalized while parked at my upscale apartment complex in Germantown, Tennessee. Very disappointing to be the.object of hate, for no reason.

My '15 Corvette, everytime I fire her up and take her out I've got a big smile, my heart pumping so strongly. Take her out every week, you know you want to.

Dude, there is no way you didn't know this before you bought it.

Sell it and buy a 4x4. You can drive all year and not worry about "wasting" money.

sell it.. buy a used 2011/2012 Camaro SS/RS with all season tires.. the LS3 is about the same HP, you can drive it all year round and it's under $20k

Not sure about the "Chicago area" comment? Is it he crappy weather, the terrible traffic, the crime or what? Maybe all of the above?

But as someone earlier asked, why did you buy the car in the first place? If you're not using it enough to enjoy it then the answer is pretty easy. Sell it and buy something that you can drive and enjoy. Maybe a Jeep SRT?

Basically, unless you take more than 1 person in the summer & tons of luggage that wont fit, drive it!

I've come to the realization that its a car, not a show car, not a rare preserved piece of history or a fragile antique.. drive it!

Once someone put it to me in these terms, my mind changed about driving.. Just think about this analogy:

You finally got a hot, I mean SMOKIN HOT girlfriend...
What, are you NOT going to "bleep" her as much as you can?
Of course you are!
Why save her for the "next" guy...? What good does that do you?

Get it?

Having a hot ride is doing you no good unless you drive it..
You wanna sit & stare at it, or have your ego stroked by just knowing you have it & keeping it in your garage, or do you want to ENJOY IT?

THAT is your decision..
If its not practical for you, then sell it, but stop making excuses, NOT to drive it, when you have the chance to if its just you or a passenger..

I live in Nebraska and am still driving mine in February. Don't drive on icy or snowy roads, but there are enough clear days with good road conditions to enjoy the ride. Fun car to drive and that is why I bought it.

OP, I some what understand your dilemma, I don't drive mine all year either due to snow. I won't elaborate why, that opens a whole other can of worms. I gather this is a second car and not your daily driver so anything you replace it with could potentially be subject to the same rational as the Corvette. I have a daily driver that I use for short trips less than 5 miles and for snow otherwise the Vette is used.

Are you planning to liquidate the Vette and have just a single daily driver?

Look, I agree with the others that we need to understand your particular situation but that tells me that you just don't love driving the car (even on weekends and summer months) because the opportunity cost is not worth it. What other car do you drive? Perhaps you should be looking at more of an AWD sedan, or something with dedicated snow tires.

I will say this. Tires matter way more than AWD. Living in Chicago you should be able to take out just about any RWD car as long as you have the proper tires (and it can be a real blast in the Winter). I just don't see the Corvette as this supercar garage queen. They are meant to be driven and there are so many sold that whether you have 5K miles on the car or 15K miles it won't affect resale that much due to volume.

You have to ask yourself if you just bought the wrong car and simply don't enjoy driving it and if you should be looking at something else.

Exactly, if this is the case move it along. I find every excuse in the book to drive mine. This morning I drove 20 minutes out west just to get free range eggs. The lady selling them almost gave them to me for free for a ride.

You have to want to and make the time to take the car out on the weekends. Go for an overnight trip out of the area with your lady to a nice resort or hotel. Join up with a corvette group if you have not already. Its what you make of it!
