Default Silly question for A8 and paddle

I know when using the paddles you cannot downshift at certain rpm's where the car won't let you. But what if I stay in first in M and don't shift up using the paddles and floor it will it shift on its own?

Can't speak for the A8, but the A6 goes to the rev limiter and holds it there in 1st.

It was a little unnerving the first time I pulled the lever all the way down to M without realizing it and did it unintentionally.

No.

It'll stay in 1st until you either put it back in Drive or you shift to 2nd.

Yes! I forgot I was in M once after a red light had turned green. It went up to about 5200 rpm before I shifted. The officer in the next lane, luckily, just laughed.
