ZR1 and Mid Engine Testing Together - New Pics
Some great new pics for us and a speculative article from Road and Track. (The ME is not the next generation Corvette/C8 though.)
Enjoy!

The fact that many of you wouldn't buy the car if it was a Cadillac versus if that same car was as a Corvette says more about you and less about the car.
The car should be judged on its merit, not automatically hated or lauded based on the badge.
But I know, some of you have images to keep up, can't be seen in a domestic luxury car that's too vulgar. Only pickups and Corvette are acceptable to you.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of a lot of GM cars, but I don't dislike any of them because of brand. I dislike them because of the car. So if you wouldn't buy the ME car because it has a Cadillac badge, it's your loss, and you're foolish too.
It's the same people who trash the Ford GT because it has a Ford badge on it, then proceed to get in some god awful looking Mercedes SUV that they bought cause it's what the neighbors expect you to drive. Barf...

Interesting photos. Especially the rear exhaust of the mid-engine (Cadillac or Corvette).
With the news that that plant is going to shut down for 3 months in preparation of the 2018 model year, I'm still debating whether the camo front engine/rear wheel model is a ZR1 or the 2018 Z06. During the C5 and C6 generational run, GM did not have any extensive mid-year cosmetic changes besides wheel styles, rather they just added new models, i.e. so if this camo car is a Z06, that move would go against recent GM history. Plus, if they were planning on simply refreshing the C7 Z06 with the new vents, cooling, hood, etc., why wouldn't they have simply waited for 2018 instead of making the changes in 2017, i.e. raised/tilted intercooler, cut out hood liner, secondary M7 radiator, etc.?
However, from the earlier reports from those bloggers who actually have seen this front engine camo car in the wild, they indicated that the car sounds like the current LT4. ???
P.S. - I also laugh at how GM messes with us by putting an "8" on the side of the mid-engine test mule...

I just don't see GM changing the flagship sportscar to a Caddy. The performance heritage is with Chevy. Starting over with Cadillac just doesn't make sense to me.

Cadillac is now running in DP instead of Corvette. They could also easily field a ME car in GTLM as well. Time will tell.

It could be both but I just don't see Chevy giving up the biggest and baddest to a sister division after having Corvette since 1953. Corporate politics are strong.

Interesting new pics. Going to be fun seeing what Chevy and Caddy have in store for the next few years.

With the news plant is going to shut down for 3 months in preparation of the 2018 model year, and these pics are starting to make me a believer they will be a mid-engine Corvette

Well we don't know the brand. But certainly now there is no doubt that there are two cars.
Not that I had doubt as I've known, thru friends, that this was happening over a year ago (for the ZR1) and the mid-engine at least 3 years.
Whoever left those cars parked next to each other (clearly this is up north during winter testing) is a moron. Never park that many cars out in the open! Doh!

Yes they do, but my bet is on a Corvette with maybe a Cadillac variant. Time will tell. Maybe a year from now maybe we will know for sure at the Detroit auto show. In the meantime it's speculation.
Hopefully people are now convinced something ME is coming.

All I can input into this discussion is this. Anybody watch the 24 hours of Daytona? Corvette finished 4th. The three in front were all ME. I think that's reason enough to think the ME will be a Chevy. Chevy has done what it can with what it has in GTLM, if they want to get back on top they are going to have to go with what's working.
Just my two cents.

Yes: there will be a mid-engine Corvette unit, at some point, but just not that car. That's a test mule.
I would be willing to bet (the Gentlemen's Bet) that it will look more like the previous Daytona Prototype and not a spin-off of the C7 cars.
