Default Best approach to black out grill on Z51 Coupe

I'm going to have my body shop put the Chevy factory blacked out Stingray, Corvette badge and Corvette flag badges on my Torch Red 2017 Z51. I want to get rid of the dental retainer strip on the front grill, I'll probably just have my body shop guy mask it and spray it a dull black.

Would that all black Z06 grill fit on a Z51 or is it the wrong size? Any other solutions for this? I think in the end painting that strip is the easiest way to do this.

Thanks in advance, pic of my car below, just got it 5 weeks ago.

Many just did a piece of black electrical tape or vinyl from vettefx.com was my choice in carbon flash. Easy to apply.

I did the vettefx strip as well, while it worked great in hindsight I'm sure a strip of electrical tape would be just as good. As motioned above the Z06 grill works and looks nicer IMO, just significantly more work.

Nice ride, will look much better without the chrome fish and any other chrome.

The Z06 grille will fit your car. I had one installed in my 1LT Z51 and I like the look much better than the stock grille.

Did Z06 grill and quarter vent swap on my 2015 and loved it. Great links in how-to section of forum. The video might be under a single user search.

I forgot who I got it from a carbon black flash tape strip 20 bucks looks great. Although I would love to have a Z06 grill with the camera it is about 400 bucks and requires removing the front bumper no thanks. painting is nice probably get chipped and is a pain to do. The tape was easy. BTW save your money re the black emblems it is easy to do with some fishing line to pull them off and use alcohol to dissolve the residue for the fish just measure where they are and replace. The crossed flags have depressions in the car to center them. The corvette script comes with a templet. So easy even a carve man could do it

^^^ I won't be doing it, my body shop guy will. I'll see how hard is for him to spray that chrome strip, he may not even have to take the air dam off to get to it.

I've been a vert guy for 16 years, so I really struggled with the coupe vs. vert when buying my TR because I love verts but thought the coupe looked so much better. I went with the coupe, but thanks for making me question my decision with this pic.

I just used a carbon fiber type roll of tape and trimmed it to cover the bright retainer. Still looks like the real thing after 5 months of driving in rain and plenty of washes.

Highly recommend.

Default Tape?

I have a carbon flash grill from the factory on my 2016 Z51. Personally my car never would have left the dealership until the grill was replaced, had it been silver or chrome. I cannot imagine putting a piece of electrical tape on my $92,000 car and calling it good. I'm sorry but that just seems cheesy to me. Have it painted or replace it with a black grill that is just my opinion. Certainly don't want to insult anyone just my thoughts on the situation.

Default Z06 Grille

I used the tape for a couple months on my ($80+K) Z-51, then had the dealer install a Z-06 grille. Best way to go IMO.

Question for all, if you replace grill with a Z-06 one will you need a different license plate holder, is the mount the same or is the Z-06 different???

Swapped my Z51 for the Zo6 with cameras last night.(took about an hour and a half) I too thought it was a bit pricey, but found a guy on the forum selling his and saved a bunch. Now after seeing it installed in person I would totally be willing to pay full price haha it looks amazing!

I applied electrical tape in April 2014 to see if I'd like the look. Still liking it today. 15 minute job. If you do it and don't like it, 15 second removal.
