A8 1st shift of the day, does your 1-2 shift delay?
When driving in the morning the first time it shifts from first to second it hesitates before making the shift. I think I've seen others mention it here. I tried this and it stopped it from doing it on the first 1-2 shift of the day.
In the morning while your still in the garage before moving your car put the transmission selector all the way down past "D" and in to "M". The indicator tells you it's in 1st on the dash. Shift the paddle shift once to bump it into 2nd. You'll barely feel it shift. That's it. Put it back in drive or reverse and you're good to go. I tried it and the first 1-2 shift of the day was perfect.
Kinda lame. But it works.

Interesting trick...gotta try it.

I will try it this morning. I have been accelerating thru the 1st shift, and it works, but this seems better. I wonder if they teach this procedure at the Corvette Driving School in Vegas?

I like it, will try it this morning

I have the weird first 1-2 shift, I also have weird, jerky 4-5 shifts at times, that can happen anytime, warmed up or cold. You will be driving along and when it gets to the 4-5 shift it will kinda rev up and quickly shift. Do you ever have that?

I've tried that and it works, but this new method works better. The standstill 1 2 1 shift.

Melting Slicks
My 2015 always had a cold 1-2 shift that I've described as "sloppy." It doesn't really flare, but is just a bit sluggish. This happens in my long driveway pulling out of the garage, but when I hit the street all is well. Doesn't bother me, but since replacing the TC with the Rev. 3 item and latest ATF (#19353429) last week that first shift seems a bit tighter.

Thanks for the tip--can't wait to try it in a month or two . ..
[Given how stiff my manual transmissions were on the first 1-2 shift of the day, I was never surprised that an automatic might feel a little different too. But I do appreciate the tip!!]

If you have a PDR, record yourself and see what the recording shows regarding the gear you are in.
I did, and was very confused.
Start up...go in R to back out of the garage....go in D to go.
Then I played it back. It shows P(ark) R(everse) then 4th...then D(rive).
WTF...why 4th?

I'll share something I learned from a local independent Corvette specialist which makes sense to me. The problem with the first 1-2 shift after the car has set a while is caused by the following. The design of the hydraulic cylinder which pulls in the clutch which engages gear ratio 2 allows the fluid to leak out of it when not being exercised. Maybe not a good check valve seal? Thus after sitting for a while, when the control system first calls for a 1-2 shift, the cylinder has to have time for the air to be purged out and be pressurized with hydraulic fluid before engaging the clutch. Therefore if at any time before the first automatic 1-2 shift, say while still sitting in the garage, you manually select 2nd gear, (with the paddles), just for a couple of seconds, even while holding the car with the brakes, then the first automatic shift will be quick and smooth. You can accomplish the same thing be starting off in manual mode, 2nd gear, and then shifting to automatic mode. Once this cylinder has the air purged out and is filled with fluid it will react quickly to a control input and engage the clutch normally. Also this same clutch is used in the 7-8 gear shift, so when driving on the highway it is being exercised any time the car shifts down to 7 and back up to 8, which may be frequently, depending on speed, terrain, load, etc.
Please respond with any thoughts as to whether this information is on the right track of explaining this A8 behavior.
By the way, this issue does not bother me anymore, as I have learned how to avoid it. But the fluctuating RPM in V4 mode really annoys me.

Thanks for the encouragement WelderGuy. Do you speak from personal experience? I've had a colonoscopy and cataract surgery, how does a converter replacement compare? (Got to keep things in perspective).
