Aero cover vs license plate mount

Aero cover vs license plate mount
I read all the details in the forums about the aero cover vs the official license plate mounting bracket. I decided I liked the look of the aero cover and mounted my license plate to it.
I immediately noticed the fans are on now versus almost never before. The days were about the same over this weekend and it was on all the time on Sunday. Also it was much hotter in the weeks prior and the fans never came on.
I saw someone trimmed down the aero cover to add more air flow but it seems like it would only add a little over an inch on either side. Plus I would need to buy a new one since I am not willing to chop up the original. Any thoughts?

I’ll say it again. I think both factory front plate options stink.
Top Flight Reproductions has a very nice steel plate carrier that mounts under the “lip” of the car using factory fasteners. Much more attractive to my eyes than the factory items and blocks far less air than factory, particularly the aero mount which the owner’s manual specifically states isn’t a good option in hot weather.
It’s a nice piece, more costly than it should be but worth it in my opinion.
While I don’t want to mount the TX front plate, I want the ugly temp tag off and the registration/title in hand, so that includes mounting the front plate.

Holy wide post, Batman!! I have had the aero plate holder on for 3 months (untrimmed) and have been driving in 95 to 100+ weather in TX for the past few weeks, including in a parade over the 4th. I've watched the oil temps (which should be a better indicator of problems than water temp, an assumption on my part) and it has been consistantly in the low 200s. I don't think the untrimmed aero plate is a problem even in the hottest weather.
Trimming it does make it look better though...

I just trimmed it down and remounted it. I didn't notice that the cooling fans operated more when I had the Aero Panel there.
No difference in Operating Temperature , but I like the smaller footprint of the License Plate. I'm in a two Plate State, so it's the lesser of two evils.
I think the trimmed down version allows a substantial amount of airflow that would be blocked by the stock Aero Plate mount.

The trimmed panel allows flow on the ends and above and below the plate. The low mount bracket also blocks the lower spoiler which helps deflect air up to the grille.

If you really look at how much of the grille the low mount plate blocks, I think the trimmed aero panel may end up blocking less.
The trimmed panel allows flow on the ends and above and below the plate. The low mount bracket also blocks the lower spoiler which helps deflect air up to the grille.

I’ll take another stab at this topic. No intention to be critical of any other viewpoint here.
Went into the garage and compared the two factory options and the Top Flight Reproductions bracket.
The given of course is that any plate on the front detracts from the appearance of a handsome car.
I will disregard the factory option that covers part of the nose of the car, pretty unattractive.
So, that leaves me with the aero mount and the TFR. The TFR bracket seats nearly flush with the grille. I make no claims to be an aerodynamicist but it appears that the TFR bracket lets more air hit the radiator than the aero mount, even when trimmed.
Which is more attractive is in the eyes of the beholder. Personally, I think the TFR bracket is the way to go and will be on my car. Don

The sides of the aero panel block more than an inch, all the way over to the vertical rib on each side of the plate.

Look around.... there are forum members that do not need a front plate that are willing to sell theirs for what they are really worth....about $30.
I priced one at my local dealer, and it was still only $45.
Part # 22830069 lists for $62.15, and my dealer gives me a discount since I have an account at the parts dept.

I have the stock front plate bracket in addition to the aero panel. I'll sell you the bracket (never used). PM me if you want it.

When I get my car, I need to have a front plate. I am on the fence on which one I like best. Originally I liked the one that mounts in the center of the grille. Now, I may like the other one. Oh well, I have time to think about it.
