Anyone paint the edges of your transparent roof panel?
I'd been using the transparent top most of the time since buying the car last August but started using the exposed c/f panel over the last couple of weeks. I'm liking the way the car looks with the blue edges on each side.
I'm thinking about getting the edges of the transparent top painted blue just like the c/f roof to match the rest of the car. I like that look better than the black edges of the transparent roof.
Here's my question:
Have any of you had this done? How did it turn out and are you still happy with it? How is the paint holding up on the material that makes up the transparent top?
Thanks in advance for any information/advice/ideas on this.

I've looked into this a bunch in the past. It seems like a small handful of people have gotten a body shop to mask the top and paint the side spears, and the few photos I've seen posted looked great. However I've heard some body shops won't touch the project with a ten foot pole, which is cause for concern. I also haven't seen any long-term photos, which is where polycarbonate and paint may not hold up as well as expected.
It seems right now, the best bet is to use vinyl...IF there is a good match out there for your body color. Mine is Night Race Blue and I tried about 8 1-inch samples before I gave up.

Having played with automotive paint in the past, I think the paint will start to separate from the roof over time. You would end up with a horrible mess. Don't do it!

I pondered this as well when I picked up my transparent top. I ended going with vett skins and I am very pleased with them. They match the paint perfectly, low cost and easy install. I've had them on my daily driver for close to a year and they look as good as the day I bought them.

Another vote for the vetteskins here. Have them on the acrylic top of my blade silver C7. Color is nearly a perfect match and I've had no problems. I like that they can be removed if you ever wish to return to the OEM look.

I believe it was the standard paint and clear coat that the body shop uses (they mentioned they use a high quality German paint). They did spray an adhesion promoter prior to spraying the paint. If I remember right I think the cost was $300. The paint matches the car perfectly and there has been to chipping. The body shop applied the graphic that blacked out the halo as part of the job.

If you call Nick (the owner) he should be glad to give you the specifics of how he painted my top.

I tried the vetteskins and wasn't overly thrilled with them. Loved the idea but just didn't warm to the "decal" idea. Had the top painted over a year and a half ago and am extremely happy with the outcome. Cost me $300 and IMHO it was well worth the price.

Yes, they are a thin flexible strip of painted "plastic like" material with a 3M adhesive backing. Don't think they are actually plastic though. Feels more like a vinyl of some sort. Not a decal. More like a credit card material.
