What is wrong with people??
I just had a not so pleasant experience.
I had my car out this morning, took a ride and stopped at the local market about a mile from my house. I was by myself. I parked the car as far away as I could. As I walked to the store, an older woman said in a really snotty tone, "I guess some of us are special!!" I was taken aback. I then realized she was speaking to me. Then she mentioned where I parked. I didn't have my filters on and just went, "WTF?!?" Another women near me said, "all of us are special." The only other thing I said to the woman who made the special comment was that I worked very hard for this car and don't want it to get scratched.
I'm not trying to show off. I like cars. I like motorcycles. If I wanted to show off how much money I have, I guess I could go buy a Bentley or something more exclusive like a Ferrari. Ugh. That's not why I own this car. My second favorite car is my WRX. That was like 25k. Guess that won't offend people since it's not too expensive for them.
Ever deal with anything like this?

How politics got injected into a discussion about a grumpy old lady who made a catty remark to a young woman driving a Corvette is mind boggling.

I have a former neighbor (the vegan, self-righteous type of leftist whose hypocrisy knows no boundaries) who exemplifies that type of person. She believes in different rules for her than for "the masses" (i.e., everyone else).
She's ranting about how went in debt to I bought a car I cannot afford (but she doesn't know that I paid cash for it) - while she just bought a brand-new 2017 Hyundai (and has a $400 monthly car payment that I do not). She keeps saying that I drive it everywhere to "show it off" - yet it has only 500 miles on it since February 1st when I bought it - and it is pretty much a "sunny weekends only" car for me.
Guess who posted 20 photos of her car all over Facebook? She did. Guess who did NOT? Me! Only one person at work knows I got my C7, along with my son, some of his friends who saw it and a few of my other friends. Not even my relatives (aside from my brother) know that I purchased this car.
I have found that there are those who are simply jealous (understandably) - but there are still others who have an insatiable desire to control others or constantly tell everyone else what they "should" or "should not" do. The most dangerous folks are those who seek to use the power of the state to force their warped views on others.

In SC folks would never say it that way! Might think it but would not say it!
I occasionally get a comment but it's said in a nice way! My classic answer for parking far away is: "Been doing that with every car I have owned, including my Dodge Colt Turbo (true!) Figure I have lost 100 pounds in the 50 years I have been driving but it just lets me get an ice cream cone and not feel guilty!"
When I was still working, one of my product managers and I parked our Vettes together at the far end of a ~800 employee parking lot and walked 150 yards! Got comments about that often. Same response!
Understand the issue in NY! Moved here 30 years ago from Southern CT!

Some yahoos park taking up a couple spaces, if your guilty of that WHICH I DOUBT she was way out of line and loaded with jealousy.
I park as safe and as far as I can most times, (Even with my 4x4DD) my biggest beef is the idiot at the gas station that sneers about all the gas I'm wasting in my under 10MPG Vette!. Its rather funny as most time my Vette gets better mileage than the POS their driving. Depending on my mode I just might tell them whats on my mind!

What was so bizarre was that this looked like someone's grandmother and she was driving a standard issue Buick or something similar. I wouldn't have expected that. If I get any kind of comments, it's usually from women who are much "larger" than me commenting on my appearance and how I probably have an eating disorder (I don't). I typically don't get comments about my cars except "nice car!"

That is so wrong.
The left lost and continues to show their un-American behavior.

On a couple of occasions, I've just laughed and said "I'm saving the more convenient spaces for people who need them."

I will never understand why people object to someone parking in any space they choose in a public lot, no matter where it is, as long as they are not taking up two spaces, or crossing lines. I usually park at the end of a row, so I can get over to one side, and I do not mind someone parking next to me as long as they stay in their space. The thing that make me mad is when someone parks over the line into my space.
I actually park in the same space at Walmart and other stores I frequent, no matter which car I am driving, probably because my wife parked closer in one time, and someone backed in and put a trailer hitch through the grille. What is worse is that they left a FAKE phone number on the windshield for the people passing by. sad.
Of course, you can be a jerk no matter where your park.. like this (Jeep driver out jerks the Corvette jerk)

Lol. Just yesterday I had a co-worker make the comment about "mid-life crisis" or "trying to compensate for something..." or "Trying to get a girlfriend on the side..." I do not dignify these comments with a response. Don't feel the need to explain anything to these people. Let them think what they want. I drive one. They do not. Life is full of choices. These comments come from folk of all walks of life. Heard them from male and female, democrats and republicans, black and white, old and young, etc... The people I've NEVER heard any of this from are the people closest to me as they are the people who know me best, knows my struggles and are the only opinions that matter to me.

Exactly what I would do. What business is it of theirs where you park as long as you are parked legally. Fact of the matter is they are probably to lazy to walk a few feet. They are the same ones who sit near the front door of a business clogging up traffic and wait for someone to back out so they can get the closest spot and don't have to walk. I'm sure we have all seen that! Nine times out of ten they get out of the car and it is obvious they should be walking. Not slamming anyone overweight I could stand to drop a few pounds but those throwing stones should not be living in a glass house. They should park and mind their own business, I didn't criticize them for their parking habits. They should shut their pie hole park shop and leave, criticizing the parking of our Corvettes or any car just shows how badly they need to get a life.

Sure. There are people who aren't happy with their lives and take it out on others. They usually aren't perceptive enough to realize that is what they are doing, which is why the best thing to do is to ignore as much as possible.
My response on the rare occasions this happens usually is something along the lines of, "Yes, I have been quite fortunate." (I don't mention the many things I did to advance my own good fortune, because these people don't want to hear this.)
Luckily, most people are quite pleasant and don't react in this way.

Sounds to me like the explanation of a bitter old person makes more sense, and I think the other side won that demographic quite handily.

Yes, more than a couple of times I've had folks walk up to me and say things like, "Wow, it must be nice to have all that money," The comments are made in a snarky tone and generally delivered with a roll of the eyes or somesuch...
I smile, and say something along the lines of "Yeah, it's a nice car. I like it. Have a great day," and walk on. On time a guy made a comment and I smiled, and asked, "Do you want to take a look at her?" To my surprise he did, and we had a good conversation about cars and motorcycles.
I think some folks are just testing to see if you, in their perception, are some rich jerk. Others are genuinely jealous, and some just want to be azzhats. No matter what it is, I NEVER defend my purchase.
What is interesting to me is I've received most of the comments I've described when I was parked out in the South Forty someplace. It's never happened when I just grabbed a normal spot in a parking lot.
The Corvette is a beautiful car that elicits some interesting reactions...

I dont know. I was going to take the corvette to the grocery store and at the last minute took my 1995 mustang. walking out of the store two a-holes in a Tesla egged my old beater mustang. It was good I was not closer to them when it happened. I can't imagine how upset I'd been if I had drove the corvette as planned. Some people are just a-holes.
