Daytona is a real trip. I crewed for Stavola Bros. for a few years 'back in the day' (last season '99). Set up tires and changed the rears. All of the tracks were fun, but Daytona is special. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the pics!
Very cool! You must have some great memories from your time on the Stavola Bros Crew!!

I was thinking about you while watching on TV. Looks like the Thunderbirds hit it out of the park with the delta-burst fly over. Thanks for sharing the pictures, know you had a great time!

The Thunderbirds took off at the airport right next to the track. So loud!!! Lady Antebellum had to stop singing when they took off!! Great display during the flyover.

Glad you got to make the trip Mike. Just booked my room at the Marriott Courtyard for the Bash - you staying there again this year?

Be sure and sign up for the dinner at Montana Grille Thursday night. I started a thread on it a week or so back.

It is an off road option offered by GM as a crate engine and it was introduced at SEMA.; the engine is a wet sump; you can buy the heads and cam viaGM parts;I don't think it will pass emissions for production. Quote per M Marchetta.

Thanks Mike. I do have some great memories from crewing - met and worked with a lot of the 'old time' drivers. Almost without exception they are really, really nice people. There is nothing quite like walking into the garage early on race morning - the anticipation, etc. And another cool thing is that I got to do a couple of the years with my son. He was too young to get a NASCAR license (he was 14 when he started crewing with us), but NASCAR gave him a license as long as our driver signed for him. He was young, strong, and fast, so we had him running the gas cart to the fill station between stops. His speed really came in handy on the large tracks where your stall could be a long way from the fill station - he'd beat 'em there and get back fast in case of another caution.

Another thing a lot of people don't know is most of the drivers hate plate tracks. Bunches the cars up and results in multi-car pile ups virtually every race on a plate track.

Happy you got to go, and really appreciate you sharing the experience with us!

Dale E was awesome. My son, who crewed with me at Stavola Bros. (see above post) liked him so much that he (unbeknown to our crew chief) always wore a #3 t-shirt under his Stavola Bros. uniform. Dale was a good friend - he liked my son because he was the youngest crew member around and he appreciated his enthusiasm.
