Yes you could have a car stereo shop do the job. I had the dealer install mine.

I've had a couple over the years (first gen Solo and Radio Shack house brand) and while effective, they do seem about 10-15% less sensitive. They are very convenient however & have fairly low battery drain(mainly used rechargables)

Check into the rear view mirror connection...sounds like the cleanest way to get it done.
