Should I buy a Manual

If you plan on keeping the car outside of warranty I would get the manual. I suspect the A8's are gonna tank in value once the warranty is up. I have seen this with other cars that have a reputation for either transmission or engine issues.

M7 all the way, never understood why anyone would want an automatic in a Corvette, unless they had some physical reason that prevented them from shifting and working the clutch.

I owned two used C4s that were automatics, boring! If manual transmissions were eliminated in the Corvette, the current Stingray would be my last.

I vote for the manual as well. Sure, the A8 is technically "faster" because the computer shifts faster than you can.........but the M7 is a lot more fun.
I also share the same "worries" about problems with the A8 down the line. There is more to go wrong with it - AND there is always that fear that GM will totally eliminate the manual transmissions in the future.
My Nissan Altima is automatic (they ceased six-speed versions about ten years ago), so I can use that as my 'relaxing' daily driver. But when I want to really have a driving experience, my M7 Stingray awaits me in the garage.

I have the M7 and love shifting gears. Originally I was going to go with and auto because my wife doesn't know how to drive a manual. When she said she doesn't care what I get as she didn't plan on driving the car anyway, I went with the M7.

I sure hope not.
Both trannies are good, and both are fun. The Chinese said, "The bridge that falls makes a thousand times the noise of one that stands." Nowhere is that adage more true than on internet forums
Mechanical things can break, but remember active posters on this forum seem to represent a very small number of Corvette owners. How about all the thousands of owners who have A8s who've never had a tranny issue? They just drive and enjoy their cars.
Remember, people buy A8s for all kinds of reasons. Perhaps there is a physical impairment that prevents using a clutch. (In our case, it is a fiancee who, at 4-8, cannot reach the clutch pedal) Maybe one has an A8 because of his or her driving environment. Maybe just the convenience appeals to some drivers, or the ability to paddle shift....or maybe they just like the A8-you don't have to have a reason to like something, do you?
The bottom line? If you like the A8, don't let anyone here tell you, or infer you shouldn't purchase because the M7 is "better." Buy for your own reasons and enjoy the hell out of your car!

Get the A8 - its slightly faster - great in traffic - and launch control is virtually useless on the M7 - People that say it is "more fun" must like to shift because its not faster, if fast=fun?- do you like to shift? I have driven my car HARD and have not had any issues. You also have a Warranty. If however you are worrying this much before buying - just for peace of mind, for you the M7 might let you sleep at night - Try not to worry about problems you MIGHT have - wait until they come and enjoy life today!

Tadge has hinted that there will come a time when economics makes the manual go away, not just on the Corvette, but all cars. So if you want to experience a manual, now is the time, because its days are numbered.

I traded in my gorgeous Carlisle Blue C6 Convertible simply because it had an automatic, and bought a C7 Z51 7 speed instead. I love it. I know the A8 is more advanced that the A6 I had on my C6, I've driven it and yes, it's better, but it ain't a stick, it's still a slushbox to me. But please don't settle for something you really don't want, either way, simply because "someone else" thinks their way is better. Get what YOU want. Good luck.

My 2013 GS was an auto. This time I went back to a manual. Main reasons were:
A8 issues
We did not have a manual in any other vehicle
I didn't want to pay $1,800 for an auto when the M7 was "free"

DWRAT,
I would not buy an M7 manual, because of what might happen with an A8. If, you want an automatic transmission.

I'll be buying a automatic C7, wife's knee is giving her trouble. I have 2, 6 speed Challengers and shifting is fun, but it gets old sometimes.

I prefer a manual when it comes to performance cars...it's a control thing with me. I love my M7. Rev match is a blast, and it makes me look and sound like I know what I'm doing!
