LT1 has the same torque and horsepower curve as the LS7 up to 4K rpm. In the Z51/GS format it is also supported by different transmission gear ratios so acceleration through the first 3 gears is very similar to the C6Z with the LS7 despite the C7 being about 200 lbs heavier than the C6Z. Most inexperienced drivers get into trouble with any C5/C6/C7 at far less than 4K rpms as they can't handle the off idle/low rpm high torque generated by any of these engines (LS6, LS2, LS3, LS7, LT1 and LT4. As far as handling all of them handle fairly similar and can get around a corner very well. The C7s are better due to suspension differences, better aero down force and PTM. A number of people worry about powering out of a corner but never even think about powering into the corner and what trying to carry too much speed into the corner does to exit speed when the driver can't get back on the throttle soon enough and loses the drag race down the next straight. Set up the entrance correctly and the exit is a hell of a lot easier with little side slip of the rear and the ability to go wide open sooner. The C7 wide body cars have lots of Aero that lets you get through that corner at a higher speed. The aero bites you further down the straight when it starts to impede acceleration at higher speeds but it gives you the initial launch down the straight on the drag strip portion of a road course.

and I'm not sure I follow with the powering into a corner. I am very rarely on throttle in turn in.

These cars are all very safe. Both should be easily controllable unless the tires are bald or the alignment is off..
What you are describing in the c6 z06 sounds like bald tires, cold weather or a bad alignment.
Anyone of those could create a corvette z06 that feels twitchy.

Not a chance. Try pushing the button on the armrest (drive mode control) once to turn off traction control and try that. I just spun all the way through first gear last night doing that. No way anyone can flat foot a 2017/2018 GS with traction control off and not be blowing off the tires.

The track was repaved in between the runs. The C7GS isn't 3 and 6 seconds faster than the C6 Zr1 and C6Z06 respectively. It's definitely not even faster than the ZR1.

Probably it's a great dilemma. The GS has been praised highly by most auto magazines especially by MT, and the same Guys mention that is hard to put the Z06's power to the ground, but the new Camaro ZL1 has the same 650 HP and they don't stop praising it, because of the powertrain/chassis/suspension combination. Would GS owners miss the Z06 power?
