Default Are TPMS' needed on track wheels?

I've never had computer issues running track wheels without the TPMS sensors on a C6 or C5. On previous cars I get a low pressure warning which I could care less about.

The car is run on the track in PTM Sport 1, Sport 2 and Race modes. Will I have issues with active handling or any other issues?

FWIW, I've searched for the answer to no avail. Hoping somebody can give me a definitive answer.

TIA

Rick

I'm about 85% sure that TPMS sensor readings are not linked to any other systems, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer either.

It seems to me that if the car went into some sort of "limp mode" due to a low tire pressure reading, there would be a warning in the manual about that.

Wanna be the official tester for this?

C7s are fine without TPMS as long as there are no TPMS is all 4 wheels. You get the warning message you need to dismiss and no readout on the display but other than that the car performs fine.

I've run my car with no TPMS, C6 TPMS (because they were already mounted that way), and with C7 TPMS that for some reason the car won't pickup. In all cases the car works just like with them in and I still turn good lap times.

For some reason, with the Pirelli slicks the car can't seem to pickup the TPMS in the wheels. Put Hoosiers on the same wheels and they work fine. I don't know if it's something with the tire construction but the effect has been no functional TPMS for most of the last year.

Thanks, that's definitive as far as I'm concerned, given your experience and credibility.

So I had this issue at Ron Fellows this year in one of the Grand Sports. I had one of the TPMS light up. Turns out there was nothing wrong with the tire but it clearly affected the performance of the car. I fell further and further behind and it felt as if the traction control was engaged full time. Not matter what I did the car wouldn't allow me to catch up. Had to pull of the track and a tech reset the sensors. Based on this I'm guessing it will affect your performance on the track. However, it was just one sensor that had the issue - not all four. Not sure wat would happen if it didn't sense all four.

A guy is at the autocross track here with his C7 ZO6 and he cannot put it into any track modes besides tour sport or eco.

The rears are showing a blank and the fronts are showing a reading but he had driven over 50 miles without the rear tire sensors so it's freaking out

I thought for sure you would be able to clear them without having a problem like the C6 is had but it seem like it still dumbs down the car if not getting everything it looks like

I am 100% positive my 2017 C7Z does not need TPMSs to function properly in any PTM Race mode. I bought 18" track wheels and have run them on 2 separate days without sensors, or issues.

crazy not sure what was going on with his car it has 2 registered and 2 unrregistered with a - symbol so that could have been his issue.

hope he gets it figured out by next auto x
