Default Help needed finding a dealership

I am picking up my girl on May 5th and doing the museum delivery. I live in Pa on the border or Pa and NJ off rt 80. The trip home is around 800 miles. I think 300 miles past the break in might be pushing it, if I am wrong please chime in.

So, I am trying to see if anyone from the NJ, PA, NY area did the museum delivery and what dealership did you use on the trip home to get your oil change done at? Trying to find a very trustworthy one if it's needed to do my 500 mile oil change on my way home. I want to make my appointment early enough so I will have no issues.

Once again if you feel it's not needed because it's only an additional 300 more miles let me know your thoughts. I am so excited and happy right now, I am counting the days. Thanks again to everyone that has helped me throughout my journey.

Just a thought for you... I picked up my car from Mike Furman at Criswell Chevy in Gaithersburg MD. I drove it to TX but did the trip in two segments. The first was from Gaithersburg to Atlanta so I could get the oil changed. It was approx 650 miles. I then drove it the rest of the way. Criswell is about 650 miles from Bowling Green and they are one of the largest Corvette dealers and Mike Furman is very active on the forum. Gaithersburg might be slightly out of your way but not by much. You can trust that dealership. Congrats on the car... I know the feeling

Thank you for your help, I noticed you went 150 miles over. Do you think 300 over is too much? I have a dealership near me that I definitely trust but I just don't want it to be an issue or not going 300 over. Thanks again!

I drove mine back from there to California, 3,000 miles was definitely too much.

Personally, I don't think 300 over would be bad as long as you check it every time you get gas and make sure things are holding right.

If you read through the stuff on the 500 mile change, to me it sounds more like a CYA thing. There really is nothing different with the motor itself compared to the wet sump cars...and they are not having them do it. It's because dealers are messing up filling it up after the change (IMHO) and they spun the story. And they're still messing up filling it up. I went to a very reputable dealer, large volume Corvette dealer (not a sponsor or on here) and they still had it more full than I would have liked ... so even with your trusted dealer at home, before you leave go through the process with a watch and check it yourself and have them correct it before you drive away if it's off.

Its probably not the end of the world. A few other things to consider: For the first 500 miles, you should keep the car below 4000 rpms and vary the rpms alot. The tach shows the redline at 4000 until you hit 500 miles at which time it shoots to 6000+. I drove in manual mode (A8) up and down alot to break it in during the first 500. Then after the oil change I got on it a good bit as I didnt want to have 1500 miles of constant speed.
800 miles isnt the end of the world, but if you look at this trip as a good breakin, you might want to make the stop at 500 and rest easy.

I wouldn't even worry about it. Drive it home, enjoy your new ride, change it when you're home and it's easy for you. Congrats!

Take it to the local dealer you trust 300 miles over is nothing. Enjoy the trip and your new Vette.

Hmmm, I'd also recommend Criswell by calling Dina and setting up an appointment. But, if you do some searching on maps, Pittsburgh PA is just about 500 miles from BG (70 to 71). Richmond VA is too far by 150 miles.

If you wanted to be right on the dot, miles-wise, I'd shoot a thread in here re greater Pittsburgh dealers, and/or post on the regional thread here on CF for PA.

Not long ago, "Scruff Vette" suggested Tom Henry Chev in Bakerstown (Pitts. area)-ask him about the dealer for an update re C7s or a club to ask more about the dealership. hoodscoop recommended them, too, but he hasn't posted in a long time.

Constant operation without shutting the engine down is not factored into the normal oil change interval.

I bought my GS from MacMulkin (NJ) and drove it back to LA, 1622 miles total. I scheduled my first oil change at Berglund Chev. in Roanoke, VA after checking with the VA Corvette Club for a recommendation. That was 722 miles and I could find no indications from any source that going 222 miles over on the recommended 500-mile oil change was an issue.

I recommend Berglund highly, so that's one option for a stop from two of the mega-dealers in the NE. Criswell probably isn't far enough at 250 miles, but it would be good for MacMulkin (722) and Kerbeck (431). The 500-mile OC requirement for dry-sump cars is in place because of contamination of the oil by sealant byproducts used at the factory. But this reportedly only affects anti-foaming additives in the oil and if you're behaving yourself during the trip, i.e. maintaining normal cruising speed and following prescribed break-in procedures, this should not be any problem at all.

You'll be fine, IMO! In fact, understand the reason for the 500 miles change (I assume you have a dry sump) that was defined in a Bulletin by GM 13 months after I got my Z51 which said, paraphrasing the key points:

"Silicone from curing engine seals MAY deplete the antifoam agents in the 1st oil fill. IF the engine in operated at Sustained High RPM that Could Cause oil foam to burp with the air from the dry sump tank to the air intake tube. That oil May run down to the air filter and drip on the ground. It has NO effect on engine Durability."

IMO from observations of forum posts there is a higher chance of oil dripping from air filters by dealers overfilling dry sumps!

After reading the many posts about oil dripping from air filter AFTER an oil change (including the 500 mile change) by a dealer, GM didn't probably want to reflect on poor dealer service by adding to that Bulletin; "Oil dripping from air filter can also be caused from overfilling at any oil change!"

I changed my oil at 1500 miles (as there was no GM bulletin saying to change other that when the OLM said to!) I did not have a drop of oil in my air intake tube of OEM filter. Checked carefully when I added a low restriction air intake!

IMO you have MORE risk in having the oil changed than waiting until you get home. Find a good dealer, ask to have 9 quarts of Mobil 1 installed when changing and giving you the 10 quart so you can carefully check the oil level (just read the Owner's Manual) and fill to the level you desire! Many of us fill to 1/2 way between Min and Max about 1/2 quart about Min and 1/2 under Max! This way you'll be sure to get a full synthetic oil and not having it overfilled.

As a minimum, IF you deside to have the oil changed, check the level before you leave the dealer! To many mechanics helpers (who often operate the oil change bay and may have been flipping burgers a month before) take the easy way out and set the dial on the fill gun pumping the cheapest "Oh-So-Peachy" dexos approved oil blend in the 55 gallon tank in the oil change bay. They then don't take the time to check the level as it clearly says needs to be done in the Service Manual. Per the Owner's Manual, the engine must be run to get the oil hot (perhaps 10 minutes) the after the engine is shut off, wait 5 minutes (for the oil to drain down from the tank baffles) BUT not more than 10 minutes. Unlike a wet sump where they can just take a coffee break and check when they come back, if they wait too long, oil drains back from the tank to the oil pan and they will get a false low oil reading! Then they may overfill causing oil to "Drip from The Air Filter! A number of forum posts saying that has happened to them! Don't want your new born girl burping oil over the ground and possibly contaminating the MAF!

I am not sure if your planned route takes you through Ohio on your way to I-80, but if it does and you decide to get your oil changed, there is a very large Chevy dealer in Randolf(corner of routes 44 and 224) that sells a ton of corvettes. It might be a little before 500 miles, but it should be pretty close. Last time I was in there(December), they must have had 20 corvettes in their showroom, not to mention all of the ones outside. I took mine to this dealership to get the alignment checked because my dealer was afraid that they might scratch my rims with their machine. I was treated very nice, and they have a very comfortable waiting area if you get tired of looking at all of the corvettes in the showroom.

I took mine into Kerbeck @ 750 just because of the timing of hitting 500 on a Friday and not being able to get there until Tuesday. I didn't want to stop driving it for even one day. No issues whatsoever. Don't sweat the additional 300 miles.

I definitely really appreciate everyone's input and opinions. So it seems like its not really a big deal driving the car all the way home then take her to the dealership near me that I definitely trust. I definitely can not wait to pick her up and do the museum for the first time for both.

Thank you again for taking out the time and responding to my questions. Pictures will be following right after.

Congrats, I am also scheduled to pick up my new ride on May 5 at NCM, maybe see you there! I will be driving straight through to Northern Virginia area, about 675 miles from BG. In the last few years, others in my club drove home from NCM and got the oil changed the next day or so, and more were concerned about how soon they could get XPel or Suntek!

You'll be fine. Just don't run any WOT sprints until you get back home and change the oil. Then, you'll be good to go! These C7's are amazing machines!

When I got my C7 in October 2013 there was no early oil change. So I went at least 1,000 miles. The car has 19,000 trouble free miles. I'll let you know when it hits 100,000 if it has had any problems.
