Added front splitter camera/monitor to 2014 C7
Finally added a front camera to view the splitter on my 2014 C7.
I have a curb alert that works good, but wanted the added security
of the camera view.
I know I can buy a new Vette and get the OEM version,
but it cost me about $75 total to do this install.
$18.00 for Camera, $26.00 for monitor, and another $20-$30
for wires, relay, and reed switch.
Wanted to be able to open the monitor and have the video come
on without any additional switches to operate. Decided to use a reed switch
similar to those installed in doors for security systems.
However, 95% of these switches I found are “N/O” or Normally Open reed
switches. This means the switch is “open” NO POWER GOING THRU when the magnet
is AWAY from the switch. I needed a reed switch that would have power off when
magnet was near and power is ON when magnet is away from switch. This is
called a “N/C” or Normally Closed switch. Could not find what I wanted on Amazon but did find it at Jaycar.us
The reed switch will handle 12 volts, but will not handle the amperage the monitor pulls and will burn out. So I set it up so the reed switch triggers a normal auto relay which than allows power from the fuse box to flow thru to the monitor and camera. I get the power from the engine fuse box by tapping into the line from the fuse box to the wireless relay for the NPP here:

I made brackets out of aluminum for the reed switch and magnet and installed them on the rear left side of the monitor so that a passenger has no view of them. This can be seen in the video.
I placed the 5” monitor on top of the steering wheel column, in front of the dash instruments, with Velcro.
This always me to view all instruments with normal driving, but as I pull up to the curb all I have to do is reach thru the steering wheel and press one button to open the monitor, this opens the monitor and sends power to the camera and monitor.

I applaud your ingenuity and I like how you've set up the monitor so it's instant on, I'm really doubting where you put it though. I guess you can ride with it for a little bit and if it doesn't work, you can figure out a different location. Good job though!

I've been driving with it for about 3 weeks now
and simply don't notice it's there until I'm ready to park.
It does not obscure the Speed/tach display at all, sitting
on top of the steering column makes it accessible and easy
to view.
