Default Why does the horn chirp when door is closed?

My '14 chirps the horn 3 times in quick succession when the door is closed. It's annoying when you're somewhere and not wanting to call attention to yourself. Can someone explain why it does that and if there is a way to prevent it?

From pg 29 in the manual:

Remote Left in Vehicle Alert

When the vehicle is turned off and a remote is left in the vehicle, the horn will chirp three times after both
doors are closed. To turn on or off see “Remote Left in Vehicle Alert” under Vehicle
Personalization pg. 132.

If the fob is in your pocket as you exit the car and you are not completely clear of the door jam when you close the door, it thinks you left the fob in the car and 3 chirps it is.

I assume you leave your car and get back in thus you have one FOB. Could the other FOB be left in the vehicle?

I never leave the FOB in the car, it always stays in my pocket. But dvilin may have nailed it: I may not be exiting the vehicle quickly enough and it may think the FOB is still present.

Thanks for the responses.

Doug it doesn't work that way. If you are outside the car with the fob it will not chirp 3 times. It will not chirp at all. It will only make that sound it a fob inside the car. If your fob is in your pocket some other fob is in the car.

My other FOB has never been in the vehicle. Horn chirps even when getting in the car and closing the door. It's just an attention getter when sometimes you don't want the attention.

Our 15 Impala and 16 Stingray both chirp 3 times if driver and FOB leave the vehicle when it is running or in acc mode.

No it's no intentional attention getter - there's no point nor any reason for that. The 3 chirps is specifically to tell you you left your fob in the car. If you are truly getting that then you should head back to the dealer and get that fixed because it's "abby normal" behavior.

Good luck.

Not the case at all. If you are closing the door with the fob in your pocket and you are still in line of the the door jam as you are closing the door it will chirp three times thinking you left the fob in the car.

If the fob is close enough to the steering column antenna, which is the antenna querying when exiting, to be recognized; it will chirp. Whether the fob is outside or inside is immaterial. The door pillar antennas only query when the door pad is pushed to enter, so the car doesn't actually know if the fob is inside or outside when exiting; it (the steering column antenna) only knows if the fob is close enough to be "seen."

If auto lock is enabled, then the steering column antenna queries again to see if the fob is actually out of range before it locks. This is why you may get the three chirps when exiting, but the car will still lock when you walk away with the fob in your pocket.

If the car is chirping when entering, this could be due to a few reasons. Usually it's because the car thought you left, but you got back in and then left again (could be hours or days later when you get the chirps upon entering again and closing the door, if you opened the door often enough to confuse the car).

Mine will very occasionally give these three quick beeps as soon as I hit the button to stop the engine. I'm still in the seat, doors are still closed. No other remotes around. Baffling.

My 2014 Stingray and 2017 XT5 will chirp three times under two scenarios:
1. If the driver exits with the driver FOB closing the door and there is another FOB in the vehicle.
2. If the driver exits with the FOB and the engine is running, as soon as the driver is a few feet from the driver door, either open or closed, the horn will chirp three times.

The car will lock in scenario number one so one must caution not to lock with your wife inside carrying the second FOB in her purse. If she tries to exit by unlocking the door from inside, the security alarm will go off.

Try disabling auto lock. Mine has never once chirped, and I prefer locking the door w/ the fob button, so it's only locked when I want it to be.

I do not have auto-lock enabled and get the chirps in the scenarios described.

I must have a free FOB in my car....Mine has done this since new, I just let it keep doing this cause I will check my pocket every time just to be sure it's still in my pocket.

Autolock and fob alert are two different things in settings

owc6 has the right of it. It doesn't matter if the fob is actually in the car or your pocket. If the fob is close enough, you get beeps. Mine did this occasionally when I first got the car. I was carrying my fob in my right pocket. If I got out, staying close to the car for clearance purposes, I got the beeps. I switched the fob to my left pocket and never got the beeps again. Try it.
