Corvette victory at Grand Prix in Long Beach
MILNER, GAVIN SCORE LAST-LAP VICTORY FOR CORVETTE IN BUBBA BURGER SPORTS CAR GRAND PRIX AT LONG BEACH
It looked like Corvettes were going to finish 1st & 2nd until the final lap. Unfortunately, Antonio Garcia who was in first approached the turn in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette and got blocked by three cars were blocking his pass which allowed the No#4 to sneak by in the right.

I cannot believe they didn't red flag that race at the last turn. Three cars stopped a a blind hairpin with everyone trying to pass before the checkered... No racing happened after that turn, why not call the race and possible save a life if not a million dollars worth of cars... Anyway, how do you pass a competitor on a turn that has a yellow? Isn't that illegal?
I just thought that was done really really poorly and dangerously. At one point there were 5 cars side by side not moving blocking all traffic.

Hopefully, Corvette Racing will appeal the decision...but I doubt they will.

Excellent!
IIRC, that car will be on display at the Bash this month.

Another example of why I'm not a fan of the street courses. No area for runoff and too many times competitors are innocently taken out or at least sustain damage that was totally out of their control. It would have been a real injustice had the Ford GT won in this case. I'm sure there is some rule in IMSA that explains how this took place, but I'm not buying it.

Didn't a very similar situation occur last year? I was also disappointed that IMSA did not set the field correctly at the checkered flag.

My son texted a Lamborghini driver (formerly Audi) that he knows from talking to him at Road America, etc. and he said the way the rules are set once the race winner has taken the checkered flag, which did take place, there will not be any local yellows enforced and everyone just races to the end, obstacles or not. He's not defending it, but that's the way it is.

That is an idiotic rule IMO.

I totally agree, and that must be the how it is or else there would have been protests filed if teams felt there were grounds for appeal. Not sure of the logic behind that one...

This is correct.
But the fact remains the rule needs to be supplemented for conditions just like this.
It was a great race with lots of action, but the LB course is getting out of hand now that there are many new cars and drivers added to the lineup of IMSA.

Although they have few, F1 has street courses down right (Monaco, for example).
However, no one else seems to pull it off well.
The Weathertech/IMSA series now shifts back East.
They won't come out West again until the end of Sept.
Here is the schedule for the rest of the year:

The thing about F1 and street courses is that series has very little actual on track passing whether it's on street or road courses. It's all about timing of one's pit stop in relation to the competition.
