Chevrolet underwhelms with Corvette’s 65th birthday celebration
"In order to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, GM has debuted the new Carbon 65 Edition."
The idea of this special edition is good, but the end result is not worthy of this iconic American Sports Car, in fact it is underwhelming.
"Limited to just 650 cars globally — effectively it’s a $15,000 package available on top-of-the-line 2018 Corvette Grand Sports and Z06s — the Carbon 65 Edition brings exterior carbon fiber elements, new Ceramic Matrix Gray paint, fender stripes, door decals, blue brake calipers, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler and quarter ducts."
On June 30, 1953, the first Corvette rolled off the line in Flint, Michigan. Only 300 cars were made that year, each of them finished in Polo White with a red interior. For 2018, Chevy has made a new Spice Red interior available for both Grand Sport and Z06, which would have made for a wonderful 65th-anniversary throwback. Maybe they’re saving it for the 75th anniversary."
Do you agree?

It is kinda underwhelming. I didn't really expect a whole lot more tbh. Ceramic Matrix Gray or whatever kinda looks like white to me.

Save the $15,000 and buy a used C5 and you'd have a winter beater/rainy day driver in addition to a new 18 GS. Grins.

Typically 65 is an underwhelming anniversary, unless of course, you can receive full Social Security benefits and go on Medicare. Still kind of under-whelming all and all. Hopefully the 75th edition will be eye popping and mouth dropping gotta have it.

16 Vettes and counting…..
Worst graphics I've seen on a Vette in a long, long time. It's amazing that they can design some things so well, and then you see stuff like and you have to wonder.....WTF?
There is still some of that Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am "chicken on the hood" mentality at GM. I'm not sure whether some of their sensibilities are mired in the past or they just don't get it. I love my new Grand Sport but there are things about it that just make me shake my head: the ridiculous plastic front fender lips and the overall tacked on look of the various spoilers and ground effects. These things weren't deal breakers for me, but when compared to other world class sports car designs, the Grand Sport looks like a hot wheels toy. I think the base Stingray without the crappy spoiler is a much cleaner and effective design.
GM needs to stop underestimating the taste of Corvette buyers and quit tarting up an otherwise splendid car. They always seem to be about 20% short of equalling the best in the world.

They raided the 1981 sticker bin.

This is all about the Corvette Marketing Dept...
"Yes sir, gimme MORE of those stupid and cheapa$$ stickers for my Corvette!"
Somebody needs to be reassigned to Pontiac, or preferably Oldsmobile.

And having paid a premium for paint on 3 new Vettes as the Corvette tax on all the aftermarket goodies, I fully believe in capitolism and what the market will bear, but not on this one. I have the $2500 competition seats in my 17 GS, and I would never get them again for that price.
It's unique, not quite up there with a Will Cooksey Z06 or a 2013 427, but different.

"In honor of jpee"
I'd have to see that color in person, but it does look kind of nice. Maybe.

Looks nice but seems a poor way to spend 15K.

Imagine having to explain what CARBON 65 means every time you exit the vehicle.

I would have made the car white and whacked a giant Medicare logo on the hood, so just be happy I wasn't making that decision.
