Default Played around with Rustoleum Black Chrome kit

So, I had been considering using the kit to do my exhaust tips and decided to test it out first on a chrome emblem. I thought a set of black chrome fish and lettering would be a nice departure from the chrome or carbon flash. I like to be different. Black Chrome wheels would be awesome, especially on the WGG, but cash and carry options are severely limited. There a chrome shops but you'd have to do the leg work yourself. I digress.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics of my work on the test emblem. I'm not sure if I gave it too many base coats before the gloss coats. It seems dark but I don't have a reference point for black chrome to know how off, if at all, it is.

When I first looked at it after spraying I definitely thought I put on too many coats but after just 2 coats, it didn't look that much darker than chrome. So I keep going

I took 4 shots in sunlight and one my desk to compare against a black pc mouse and a grey one. It's hard to see the nuance. In person it looks almost like WGG but a little darker.

It's really hard to tell those are anything but black in those photos.

The pics don't show the accurate color. But, it's clear I put on too many coats. $14 down the drain. I'll try again.

I agree. Black chrome, of course, varies from mfr. to mfr. In many cases (mine included), from a distance it looks like a chrome finish (very shiny and silvery/chrome). But the "black" look comes from it also looking like it is in deep shade late in the day, like after sunset by a half hour. Let that be your guide if it helps at all.

Suggestion: take some plastic or metal piece and experiment on it. One coat of base, 2 coats of clear. 2 coats of base, 2 or 3 coats of clear.

It does look like flat black. I have that same mouse and always thought it was flat black as well. I think the suggestion on more clear is probably the way to go.
