Default Trying to buy tires

Or tars as they say down here. Called Firestone to order two fronts for my Z51. I went down there after the tires arrived and asked about if they were able to get run flats off the black wheels. Seems that they only have one guy that can do that and he's not there until Monday. Grrrrr

Now I don't have any confidence that the job will be done right and Discount Tire is closed until Monday.

Is Discount Tire better than Firestone for this?

This problem will go away when the standard wheel size goes up to 21-22 inch diameters. Just be patient.

Doubtful. The tire changing machines are pretty standard, what you are looking for is the right person with the experience and skills needed to use them. Sounds like Firestone only has one. You may want to call around to other shops to see who is more familiar with the run flats and C7.

You need to find a shop that has a hunter revolution tire changer

In the many posts I've seen, Discount Tire does seem to have better-trained techs. I'd call and ask, then go over and ask again in person. Machines can help, but some can't handle machines. Mostly, it's about knowing what to do and how to do when it comes to very low profile tires and runflats that are also v. low profile.

I have used Discount Tires both in Houston and here in Monument CO and have been completely satisfied, never any damaged wheels

Up to now have only used Firestone since that is where even the Chevy/BMW/Mercedes dealer brings their low profile wide run flats. It takes a touchless tire machine AND a skilled tech. Firestone has both but of their 20 techs working their 12 bays only 2 or 3 are allowed to do them.

We just got a Discount Tire in town. Before I got my Grand Sport visited to see their capabilities. They have the right kind of tire machine to protect my wheels- they are NOT all alike. Since they only do tires they have the proper technicians. In fact for my 1 week old Grand Sport bought tire insurance for $260 from them!

I used Discount Tire twice, once for my C6 and another for the Tundra. Superb service both times. They knew all about the jacking locations for the C6 and did not put a scratch on the C6 chrome wheels. The balancing was perfect as well.

My local Discount Tire is the best place I have used. However, Monday is tomorrow, the tar's are there, and their Tech will be working. May as well get-er-done there.

Tire store franchises under the Discount Tire banner as well as other brands are just like car dealers. Some are properly managed with well-trained employees, state-of-the-art well maintained equipment, and others are utterly incompetent with none of the above.

+1 on Discount Tire. The only place I buy, repair, balance, rotate, and switch tires.

my friend. It's all in the managers, and employees. Luckily my DT has good ones.
